It's easier to explain than what Dell is saying.
Dell failed in the smart phone market.
Dell failed in the tablet market.

In other words. Dell missed the boat in the Post PC era and even if they nailed everything they said is the problem they would still be a shrinking company as the PC market finds it's new and smaller market level.

That's what you get for betting your Company's future on Microsoft's success

It's the perfect No-Win scenario and precursor to the Kobayashi Maru test

Then please explain Lenovo, Asus, MSI and Samsungs success, all of which are using Windows on their products and are experiencing double digit growth in the CPO market. Dell's issues are with quality, or lack of, and poor design as they have no one with vision in the company. A 5 year old can design better looking products than what Dell has released over the past 2 years, as Dell thinks the large square box with orange and brown trim is in again.

You are obviously not talking about the desktop market which went into freefall since the release of malware 8

You must be referring to a market created for malware 8

or by reducing the number of "Other" options available

Please specify exactly what computer segment that growth was in and what options anyone had to avoid being herded into that specific segment for a "Windows Only Computer"

I am intrigued and wish to subscribe to your newsletter!

I did specify the market segment. Desktop means just that Windows desktops and laptops as the companies I mentioned have and are still experiencing double digit growth. One reason why Lenovo moved from 5th largest to the largest PC seller in just over 2 years, they innovate, listen to their customers, and make wholesale changes to their product line based on customers want and needs (goes back to the whole listening to your customer concept. You may want to try that your self) And if you bothered to read any of the reports available, and those that MaxPC posts Lenovo is the market leader in the $900 and above market as they own over a 40% markets-share.

Desktops were in freefall before the release of Windows 8.

May this be a lesson to current or future proprietors who are contemplating going public. It's a lot easier getting into it than getting out of it.

Truer words were never spoken.
It's funny how Dell can't make the needed changes, well according to Mr. Dell the needed changes, because while it will help the company in the long run, it'll hurt it while getting up to speed, and stockholders will revolt. This, this right here is one of the reasons the US economy is stagnant. The mantra of "maximizing stockholder value" isn't as wise as economists felt it was. It creates an atmosphere where long term company health is secondary to quick down and dirty profits, and the fallout is only going to get worse.
