Figures, they ship my media server parts on the 28th and I get the 'we're sorry you're mobo is junk' email today.  I bought two SATA II HDD's, SSD boot drive, and a SATA BD drive.

In sympathy with Intel, I will declare a $300M loss from a single-instance mistake in 2010, too.

The FAQ misses that this is secretly awesome, as indicated by the AnandTech article; a Sandy Bridge you already have is fine on SATA ports 0 and 1, and you can tell if you're affected by monitoring BER reported on ports 2-7ish. Moreover if you swap for New Intel Mobo Hotness, you can perhaps get the integrated graphics compatible with overclocking modes.

If you want sympathy for your shopping cart, buy virtual hosting!

wow .. its BOTH the mobo and cpu being pulled off ?  I'm lucky enough to have purchased both this past saturday at microcenter. I'm gonna hold on to them and won't let them go out of my sight ;)

I had $1100 worth of wish list at newegg.  An I7 2600K, an ASRock Fatal1ty Motherboard (more about PCIe slots and an actual ata133 connector than Fatal1ty logo.), a 560Ti, and 8 gigs of memory, some coolant tubing, Arctic Silver, and a blue ray drive I think.   The motherbaord is gone from the site...I can understand that.  But why the cpus?  They even took em outta my wish list so I couldn't keep em for future reference.  This is Tax Return Money.  We exist the whole year to blow that tax return moeny on special stuff.  Few grand, not a few hundred.  By the time Intel fixes this, this money will be here and gone.  I guess no Sandy Bridge for me.  Since my tower died back in December I have been using my Asus G72GX set up like a tower with 22 inch monitor, mouse and keyboard.  Problem is, it's gotta go in to get the display replaced.  It starts workin hard in a game the backlight dies.  Can't do that till I get the tower back up and running.  So it's an ASRock x58 Extreme 3 (not too thrilled about it), an I7 950, the same 560 Ti (may go with a GTX 570 now) and 12 gigs of ddr3 1600. =$929.96

If anyone knows of a better motherboard that has an ATA133 connector PLEASE let me know.  I don't have a SATA burner mainly because there isn't anything wrong with the one I have.  I would rather spend money for a new sata burner on a higher end video card or memory or cpu or something.  I think I have the highest end cpu I can find for this for under 8 or 900 bucks.  I do need a cpu water block with 3/8" barbs for this regardless....Any suggestions?  Checked out Danger Den...MEH.

Just suck it up and purchase a new Optical drive. SATA is much faster than IDE imho, the newer read and burn speeds are much faster and they're cheap enough to pick up 3 of them for what you initially spent for the IDE I imagine. My Asus Litescribe capable DVD-R cost me $19. The Sony IDE drive I bought new back in the day cost me over $60.

Oh and trust me these aren't the only reasons to upgrade, not only are more and more MoBo manufacturers dropping IDE, SATA cables are much simpler to route and allow your system to maintain peak airflow in the Summer so you don't lose your new gear at the worst possible time.

I'm also pretty sure that the Egg will have cheaper drives as well. Stay away from LiteOn and Sony Optiarcs. Junk. Also you will find the best price in Combo deals generally saving $20 which will pay for that new drive. MoBo should come with SATA cables so no cash expense there. I mean if you can afford the Fatal1ty and the new 570 then see if you can get either or possibly both together in a Combo and give them something speedier than an archaic IDE drive running 8x-16x speeds. Also with media(except audio) going DVD/BluRay exclusively you're only shorting yourself and your system sticking with the IDE format. Do yourself a favor and upgrade that too, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

I wound up with an EVGA X58 SLI3, getting an I7 950 next week.  I already got 12 Gigs of Kingston HyperX for $160.  Either going to get a SC GTX560 Ti or a SC GTX570, both from EVGA.  Depends on which one Newegg has next week.  If I have to go somewhere else for a good card, I'll prolly go with a stock GTX570 mainly cuz of the price.  I'm having a hard enough time spending $360 on one part, especially after everything else.  Went with a LG Bluray burner for just under $100.  Got a R.A.T. 7 and a G19 too.  Been using 7 Home Premium x64 for a while...

Actually, Newegg has removed their stock of SB CPUs from the website at this time, as well as systems containing SB CPUs. :-/
