I hate to get pessimistic here, but what is so good about having to take your hands off of the keyboard and mouse and fumble with things on the screen? I will bet that it is a lot slower doing things with your fingers than it would be with the mouse.
I can see touch on small iphone sized objects that do not have many ways to interact with it. But if you have a mouse and keyboard, all bets are off for useability.
There was a recent article about speed of input (words) using various devices, and Surprise!, the keyboard was twice as fast as the next device (which I think was a miniture keyboard on a phone.)
Even speech is slow. I set up Dragon on my computer and my son was able to type almost twice as fast as speak the damn thing and that is without the invariable corrections that needed to be done.
Touch screens, little devices, occasional pokes=good. Big devices with other means of input=bad. Simple enough.
