Current and Future Intel Processor Price Cuts as High as 20%
Posted 03/20/09 at 10:06:45 AM by Paul Lilly
According to news and rumor site DigiTimes, Intel doesn't have much in the way of upcoming Core i7 processor price cuts, but if you're looking to piece together a Core 2 machine, look for some pretty significant reductions in the near future.
Citing un-named motherboard makers, the site claims Intel will drop pricing on several quad-core processors on April 12. These include:
- Core 2 Quad Q9300 - $266 down to $213 (19.92%)
- Core 2 Quad Q9550S - $369 down to $320 (13.28%)
- Core 2 Quad Q9400S - $320 down to $277 (13.44%)
- Core 2 Quad Q8200S - $245 down to $213 (13.06%)
On May 31, DigiTimes says Intel will introduce a handful of new processors, among them the Core i7 975 (3.33GHz) for $999 and Core i7 950 (3.06GHz) for $562. Other new processors expected at the end of May include the Core 2 Duo E7600 for $133, Pentium E6300 for $84, and Celeron E1600 for $53.
Finally, if you can wait until mid-summer, Intel is expected to issue another round of price cuts on July 19. These include:
- Core 2 Quad Q8300 - $183 down to $163 (10.93%)
- Core 2 Duo E7500 - $133 down to $113 (15.04%)
- Pentium Dual-core E5400 - $84 down to $74 (11.9%)
- Pentium Dual-Core E5300 - $74 down to $64 (13.51%)
- Celeron Dual-core E1600 - $53 down to $43 (18.87%)

I think he intends the S to mean multiple numbers like I have six 8800s or I think the Chevy 350s suck. Now do you get it?
I normally add one of these ' befor the S so its obvious that it's an add on. Like this The Chevy 350's do suck.
But I'm not a freaking editor and it's been a very long time since I've been in school. So to me at least it's easy to figure stuff out and not pick on anyone's misspelling except for the fun of it.
Don't forget that these guys that post blogs here have F'ing feelings too.

Didn't say anything about the article....but the blasted huge logo! So this aint a need be for HUGE logo. No, I won't stop. I stopped buying maximum PC for one purpose....it's prejudice towards intel. But I bitch to rile people up....a motivator, to get people to think about other aspects of something whether good or bad.

MaximumPC is about the highest performing components and pc's available irregardless of price. Intel is the speed king right now. When AMD was the performance king MaxPC ate at the AMD table. You are the one that is a fanboy here. Cetainly not MaximumPC and definately not me. I will buy whatever is the fastest CPU and GPU price be damned. I don't care who makes it.
Since you quit buying the magazine why do you even bother coming here? I mean you hate the magazine why would you waste your important time hating here when you could be enjoying other things. Sounds like you have issues and I think you should see someone. I'm serious. I say a doctor about a few issues I had and I got a neat pill.

I don't know if this is a typo or not, but the Q9300 and Q8200S come out to both be $213. If that is actually the numbers, then that is redundant because then who would pick the lesser?
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300

2.50GHz
2 x 3MB
1333MHz
95W
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200S

Low Power
Submitted by skhills on Fri, 03/20/2009 - 8:28am
There is a premium on the 65W S series parts. Naturally someone who cares about performance would choose the faster proc, but there are systems (i.e. HTPC) where a lower wattage part is desireable, as well as those that pay more for the warm fuzzies from trying to be green.

My god Have they gotten so lazy and careless that they dont bother to read what they write before they post it.
i love the magazine but i am begining to wonder how much credibility will they have left with all these errors that keep coming up. and there have been plenty.

Unfortunately, unlike magazine articles, blog posts don't have the advantage of going through 2-3+ editors before going live. It's unfortunate that typos like '$99' when it shoud have read '$999' occur, but thankfully we have a vigilant group of readers ready to pounce on any typographical errors, which makes spell-checking a blog almost seem like a waste of time. :P
