I'm geared up and READY (unless EA/Origin is "required" for stand-alone play - in which case, I'll take my money elsewhere)
liquid-cooled X79 i7-3960 25% o/c'd; 32gb RAM; twin SSDs; twin HD7970s also liquid-cooled.

He said that with crysis 2 the PC and console were closer GFX wise? He is a liar, Crysis 1 was right after the xbox 360 was released, so that would make the xbox and the PC have similar power at the launch of crysis 1. With Crysis 2 the PC was far ahead of the xbox and PS3. Considering the 480s and 5870s were out, I'd say the PC was far ahead of the 4 year old Xbox at that time. We will see if this is all talk, but I'll hold my money until I see some more info/demos.

PS- I'm one of them that loved the original crysis, but wouldn't touch crysis 2.

bloody hell

now just a 1 + gone since crysis 2 launch and look how many players u get while playing it on multiplayer ????????

to bad

I respect everything what EA and crytek build but where is bloody performance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????

only GTX 780 and HD 8970 will be able to play crysis 3 on fullest over 1080 and on 2560 will be a problem ?

avatar

gothliciouz

i hope the melting doesn't happen because of a poorly optimized port.

avatar

gamewizard

Good, I hope it is as harware melting as Witcher 2 was last year. XD

Game looks good. But it's EA.
Another one to be ignored, no matter how good.
EA being the worst company ever. I won't buy the game due to EA Origin's registration rules, and the fact that EA will drop services without notice.

avatar

Quentin Mann

I know, I hate EA too. I put up with Origin for a couple of games: Fifa and BF3 - but I'd rather not install it on my system. And I'm probably going to buy this too though!

I will say that Rockstar Games appear to be worse now. There is no way to play Max Payne 3 unless you sign up to their social club. I bought the game on a Steam sale a few weeks ago and haven't played it because of that! I miss the simple times when you loaded or installed a game and just played it, without all the cut scenes and other crappy extras.

I might grab it if it looks better than Crysis, which Crysis 2 did not. The original Crysis is still one of the best looking games on the PC, period. With mods, it competes and often bests current generation titles. It was epicly ahead of its time and remains a milestone in PC gaming. Hell, when was the last time NASA was interested in a videogame?

It's still the first game I install on any new rig I build. I can't remember another game that caused so much enthusiasm behind custom built rigs and "my-machine" epeen.

I hope Crysis 3 really delivers. While I'm an avid gamer, I'm an enthusiast at heart and love to see how far I can push my hardware and technology.

Gotta agree with you, I loved crysis, played through it about 10 times or so, warhead was also good. But I didn't even consider Crysis 2 when I saw what it looked like, and the storyline was horrible too.

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

There is no good reason to produce a game no one has the hardware to play.

I didn't buy Crysis, because my machine couldn't run it. Now that I have a machine capable of running it, I still haven't bought it. Why? I had forgotten about it.

I do appreciate games that look great, and I think the goal should be to make them as visually appealing as possible, but coded that high-end machines CAN run them with everything turned on.

Designing a game that can't be played for several years is just plain stupid.

your loss, before I got my dream job, I still managed to have a awesome rig on a school bus drive's pay.

a REAL gamer 'finds a way'

its too easy to find deals on 1 or 2 steps down from the top stuff and still have a great rig.

Crysis really was impressive, its milestones like that, that give me hope for pc gaming. but its companies like EA that must be starved into submission.

Indy games are starting to have some nice titles.

And a lot of new really good PC games are going Free to PLay... Which I for one really like, I've already been playing two, soon to come out, hot titles in closed beta that are going to be very nice, and I am an avid World of Tanks player, which is coming along in strides! Check it out if you have not already, its much more complex then just a tank shooter, it takes a lot of things into account like angles, penetration, location, armor thickness, visual sight, radio range and I am sure more I am not listing. There is a surprising amount of strategy in the game. Plus its just fun. The next major patch 8.0 is going to really do wonders too, like adding some much needed physics to the game, and advancing the already nice render engine.

I here the next PlanetSide will be free to play also.

I couldn't agree more!

There hasn't been many demanding game recently this is what made Crysis I (game I never played) famous in the first place.

A. My PC can't run Crysis!

B. Maybe two or three years down the road it will =)

avatar

Typo91

you are not a gamer

in 2012, not being able to run crysis puts you in the "I like to use my mom's computer sometimes when she isn't using it" category.

avatar

Biceps

@Typo91.

Agreed. Definitely not a gamer. Just because a smartphone is arguably a hand-held computer doesn't mean that playing Angry Birds on one makes you a gamer.

To be a *real* PC gamer, in my opinion, you at the very least should have a discrete video card in your rig. That's not asking much.

avatar

biggiebob12345

Let's just pray this isn't a repeat of Crysis 1, where even 3x 8800 Ultra's costing $2100 couldn't max it out.

avatar

RUSENSITIVESWEETNESS

Yeah, 'cause Lord knows there are millions of gamers with $10,000 rigs to buy it....

avatar

Hilarity

How about a rich detailed 20hr campaign with choices that are well thought out and that stills holds up today like Far Cry? Oh, that's right, you are a console developer first and foremost in 2012. Pretty DX 11 graphics can't hide a series that is built around shitboxes. I'll give you props for making my 7970 shit itself though.

avatar

Typo91

I agree,

Its just not fair to have set the bar as low as consoles that came out in 2006 ? (wasn't it?)

wtf is up with that, forget these console noobs.

avatar

kixofmyg0t

It should have a maximum frame cap of 15fps that way all PC gamers are happy thinking "whoa man it MUST look awesome because my uber elite $14,000 Dream Machine can barely play it!"

Everyone's happy then.

I enjoyed the first 2, I'll be playing 3 on PS3.

avatar

Typo91

thats what XBOX and PS3 already are.

15fps machines that run stuff at low settings and can barely handle anything really complex, but still cost a stupid amount of money.

Dream machine for 14,000... Honestly if you put that much in a machine, it could...

Serve many TB of files on your LAN to other PCs
Run Autocad in the background while running crysis
compile video files while doing the line above
Download torrents at the same time as above
Host a webserver "
run about 6 screens
support 3D DX11
have 7.1 surround sound 192khz
heat your house in the winter
heat your house in the summer
drive your kids to school
make breakfast
impress girls
pay for itself when you take it to quakecon and win prizes for it
comfort you when your wife leaves you
remember you birthday
play cat videos on youtube
generate its own power
monitor as many webcams as you hook up in real time for motion
and last but not least, when you get killed by hackers in BF3 and beat the crap out of your keyboard it will probably not crash.

avatar

jgottberg

Amen. There are not many games, actually NONE come to mind, that justify buying a 60 dollar game and having to also buy at least a 450 dollar video card (possibly 2 in SLI). At 610 dollars I could buy a PS3 or Xbox and 5 or so games.

avatar

DR_JDUBZ

at 600$ id still buy a decent gpu. i would cut off my arms and legs before id buy a shitbox with their 0% reliability and piss poor graphics

avatar

Typo91

amen

and a $600 gpu (though a $300 one is still GREAT for anything today)

will run everything you through at it. personally I spend well over 300 a year on games, so GPU has to be good, and a good GPU will last a few years before Crysis 4 anyway.

avatar

Mortal_M

Make it so my hardware will melt while running it but optimize it so it'll run faster and take advantage of multicore hardware, 64-bit OS and systems with high RAM.
If it's going to ask me to buy a new GPU to run the game because it's poorly optimized then that's nothing to brag about.

avatar

yammerpickle2

How about they take the latest steam survey and take the middle point as a target for game to run at average settings. Then take the top ten percent of the steam survey and make it the target for all the bells and whistles turned on. In the time it takes it release the game driver’s will improve and maybe some of the average and below PC will be upgraded so there is some wiggle room. That way you can make the majority of the PC gamers happy and not either crush their hardware so nobody can run it at reasonable frame rates, or consolize it so everyone is disappointed in the visuals.

avatar

Hey.That_Dude

Because if they did that then they would be behind the curve a year and a half later when the game is actually released. They need to shoot for the 75-80% mark. Then a year an a half later that same FLOPS mark will be nearer the 50% mark.

avatar

Morete

In an earlier interview with U.S. Warface publisher hopefuls, they asked Yerli about the graphics and physics of the upcoming Crysis 3. He said that "Crysis 3 will have more destructible environments than Crysis 2 but WON'T have as many destructible environments as Crysis 1".
So in my opinion we can expect the same with tessellation. All it's going to be is an ambient lighting showboat with decreased physics, destructible environments and tessellation. Crytek could more than recoup the costs of large scale development from their engine licensing fees charged to other developers. Indie developers can survive without publishers like EA, so can Crytek.

avatar

DR_JDUBZ

If its anything think like their f up of crysis 1 and warhead, especially with steam, with all the drm they loaded it definitely make my computer melt. For that reason, if i do find theyre selling it with gfwl, installation limits, or origin only distribution they wont see any money from me. IT MUST BE AVAILABLE ON STEAM OR IN STORE AND UNLIKE BF3, IN A POST-BETA STATE! also should ditch the constant world loading, as with crisis 1 most of the game time was spent in load screens, even on an ssd

avatar

John Pombrio

Heh, JUST was in a discussion about the Win8 NVidia drivers. Someone was complaining that the Win8 Drivers were causing BSOD after running Crysis Warhead for 10 minutes with all the eye candy turned on. I told him that it was not the driver's fault as much as it was CRYSIS. If there ever was a program to make your graphics card bleed, it's Crysis.

avatar

xeones

Never mind crytek, I still haven't forgiven maximum pc for saying in their review that crysis 2 was great with nvidia 3d vision.

The weak consolized version of 3d that crysis 2 has is akin to the movies that have been "software converted" as opposed to shot in 3d. In short, it looked terrible. Sure, you didn't lose half your framerate like you normally do with 3d vision, but that's a tradeoff we're willing to make for good 3d. That's why i run sli.

Anyways, here's hoping crysis 3 will have decent 3d.

avatar

dentaku

Crysis 2 was just a bad game. Yoy where trapped in small areas of the world and forced to go down predefined paths. It was a boring console game.
The suit wasn't even as useful as in the first one.

avatar

vkt62

Crysis 1 and Warhead were amazing games with an open world with thousands of possibilities and graphics too powerful for its time (I did complain but what the hell, the game was good). The suit had multiple modes and each mode was well designed. Crysis 2 not only ruined the the games into a copy of Modern warfare but also spoiled the story and the suit. Doubt the third will be any different and both do not deserve the name badge of "Crysis".
