Corsair Updates Builder Series Power Supplies with Three New Models
Corsair bills its Builder Series of power supplies as sort of the working man's PSU. They're relatively affordable, yet sport "features normally reserved only for premium power supplies," like extra long cables that are fully sleeved, quiet cooling, and energy efficiency. With this value proposition in mind, Corsair today announced a trio of new additions to its Builder Series, the CX430 V2, CX500 V2, and CX600 V2.
As the successor the current CX family of PSUs, these version 2 units all sport 80 PLUS certification and are aimed at entry-level to mid-range home system builds. Corsair also tacked on a longer warranty, extending the guarantee from 2 years to 3 years.
"The Builder Series CX PSUs have been an integral part of Corsair's PSU business, offering home system builders and hobbyists Corsair quality and reliability at attractive prices," said Ruben Mookerjee, VP and General Manager for Components at Corsair. "Low cost of operation and trouble-free performance are highly desired features at every price point and today we are proud to offer even better efficiency and a longer warranty with the new Builder Series CX V2 PSUs."
The new PSUs are available now for $49 (CX430 V2), $64 (CX500 V2), and $74 (CX600 V2).

Can people really get away with a 450w PSU for today's machines? Seems pretty low for a recently-built rig with a decent CPU and GPU.

My PC with an Intel Core i5 2500K and GTX 570 burns at 340W at stress. They're not that hungry, really. You only need a power supply of 650W or more when you have multiple graphics cards.
The reason I'm using a Corsair AX750W though is the extreme reliability, modularity, 7 years of warranty, and inaudible fan until 450W or so.

I just built a windows home server box with a low power zacate board and 2 hard drives, 450w is more then plenty for that. It is all in what the box is built for.

I would love to see Corsair make this line of power supplies modular. Once I went modular I never went back.

It's a budget line for a reason. Modular power supplies always need better components for voltage regulation, that's why modularity is reserved for the HX and AX series.
