Corsair Claims World's Fastest Production 8GB Memory Kit
Corsair today announced the production of a Dominator GTX 8GB dual-channel DDR3 kit guaranteed to operate at 2400MHz with latency settings of 9-11-10-30, and at a memory voltage of 1.65V. That qualifies it as the world's fastest production 8GB memory kit, a claim Corsair proudly makes and one we can't find evidence to the contrary. Turns out there's a reason why no other company has been able to crank out an 8GB kit as fast as this.
Not many higher capacity DRAM chips are up to the task. Corsair is able to achieve such a high frequency by subjecting chips to a "painstaking four-stage component screen process." According to Corsair, fewer than one in 20 memory ICs pass muster.
"The purpose of these kits is to help overclockers explore the limits of memory performance," said Giovanni Sena, Director of Memory Products at Corsair. "They're the product of careful screening, selection, and testing, and we're eager to see what enthusiasts will do with them. As long as our customers are obsessed with making computers faster and more powerful, we'll continue producing extraordinary memory kits to help make that happen."
Hand selected chips? Four-stage screening process? World's fastest 8GB memory kit? If you think all this has to add up to a high price tag, well, you'd be right. Corsair says limited quantities are available now from its webstore for 500 smackers. Each kit comes with Corsair's DHX+ heatsink and an AirFlow 2 GTL cooling fan.

When I moved from DDR2 800 (CAS 5) to DDR3 1600 (CAS 6) I noticed very little difference. Some specialist applications like Folding@home benefited from the extra bandwidth, but most games saw little more than than 1 or 2 FPS increase.
