Core i7 Pricing Leaks From Newegg
It may have been little more than a cruel mistake, but Newegg certainly got our hopes up by showing Core i7 CPU’s for sale a whole three days before the official launch. The offending links and advertisements were quickly pulled from the site and now, little more than a handful of screenshots exist as evidence.
Core i7 is currently slated for launch on November 17th and it appears as though we’ll have to wait until then to place our orders. Normally, this incident wouldn’t classify as news, but the Newegg slip up does give us a pretty good idea of what the retail pricing will be on the three new SKU’s. The site was offering the 2.66GHz entry level part for $319.99, while the 2.93GHz and 3.2GHz models were priced at $599.99 and $1069.99 respectively. UK customers are seeing similar pricing and power users the world over are waiting with egger anticipation to embrace the new architecture. This isn’t surprising given that early benchmarks have the entry level Core i7’s mopping the floor with pricier, and higher clocked Core 2’s.
So are you going to buy a Core i7 on Monday?

I personally won't buy into nehalem yet. Why? Remember how great core 2 duo was. Yeah, then they started glueing two dies together for a quad-core. Who wouldn't like an 8 core with HT. Add Johnsburg chipset (my imaginary skulltrail motherboard for core i7 and you get 16 real cores and 16 virtual. Yeah, I thought you'd like that.

Well, i7 sure is tantalizing...but the need for X58 and DDR3 saddled with an ecomomic outlook in the tank mean waiting a bit would be more than prudent.

I'm glad Intel sells budget/slightly outdated chips. At those prices, I would have to stick with my pentium 3 for a few more years.

There are Core i7 prices (Including the Intel X58) in the most recent Tiger Direct catalogue I received late last week.
Intel DX58SO: 299.99
Core i7-920: 329.99
Core i7-940: 649.99
Core i7-965: 1,149.99
Can you say EXPENSIVE?

A MSI X58 Platnuim from Newegg.com sells for $220. Add some cheap triple chanel corsair RAM (3 GB / 1333 mhz / latency of 9) for $130. Add a $320 CPU for $670 and you're not off too bad. Heck, throw in a GTX 260, and a PC Power and cooling 610 for $80 after the rebate, and $175 after the rebate. Throw in an X-Fi xtreme gamer for $91, a Caviar 640 GB drive with 32 mb of cache for $85. Add Vista for $100, an Antec 900 for $100, and an optical drive for $30. Done. Finished. Fait. Termine. Hecho. Terminado. Awsome gaming computer for under $1300 bucks. If you want more buy a motherboard with SLI support and buy a second GTX 260, or buy duall 4850s, or even a GTX 280.
Benchmark that, Max PC!
(It would beat the living daylights out of your most recent $1500 PC.)
(Sure, GTX 280 beats GTX 260, but DDR3 and core i7 makes up for that)

Well, I personally can't afford to build a system (of that magnitude, anyway) right now... But I get to basically put together one for a friend who has been wanting a new machine (I told him to wait for i7). So I'll get to do a complete system build with one of these guys in about a week. The proc.-o-choice is the 940... And I'd like to point out that my prediction for the pricing on that part on Newegg is exactly one cent lower than I predicted... If only that prediction were written down somewhere... Heh.

As I was looking over this article I remembered....I got my usual Tiger Direct catalog in the mail the other day, and in the processor section was the three new Core i7 processors. I thought it was strange since I didn't think they were out yet (which they aren't...) and nothing on the catalog said anything otherwise. I went to tigerdirect.com and found out that they didn't have the processors on the website. But they are in the catalog, with the prices and everything.

Hell I'm still fantasizing about a q6700. Will prolly settle for the 6600 tho. I am not gonna buy an i7 anytime soon because I would have to buy a new motherboard and memory. Since I am more than happy with my 680i, I see no reason to want a new motherboard in light of how much it will all cost. I like being married and she was mad because I got a Kandalf LCS Silver for $290.
