If I can chat with people through instant messaging and not be forced to do video chat, I don't really care either way. If hte only option with Skype is video chat, then I am not inteested.

Skype has always had a text messaging system available as well as video and voice.

While WLM gets pushed down to a lot of PCs via MS Update, or comes pre-loaded, Skype is much more widely accepted and used. From a business standpoint, why would you invest in two programs that accomplish the same thing, when they both have identical features? It makes perfect sense that they would kill WLM in favor of Skype.

Probably one of the few here that still used WLM and enjoyed it (2009 version). Shame to see it go...Especially considering grouping contacts in skype and IM in skype in general is pretty bad :/

Oh look, yet another way for M$ to screw us in the ass. Then again...I use Trellian now so this really doesn't concern me.

Skype is awesome but yeah MSN has had its days. Good while it lasted for the most part

It'll be sad to see MSN/WLM go. Started using it since I started getting on the Internet. Though overall, I am glad they give you an option to merge your contacts to Skype.

As of right now it wouldn't be a big problem for me as I use Skype more frequently than I used to.

Same here. I've been using Skype as my main IM client for a while now.

Interesting... I wonder how or if it will affect the Microsoft Lync software. If MS will just drop that in favor of Skype?

OH wow - Thanks for the link, buddy.

Thats really odd that they would dump Lync in favor of Skype... We are heavily invested in Lync so it will be interesting to see where this goes.
