comScore: Bing Gains on Google in Search Market Scuffle
Even though you don't pay anything to use Google, Yahoo, or Bing, there's a lot of advertising dollars at stake in the search engine game. Google so far has been the biggest beneficiary, and probably will be for a long time to come, but it is seeing increased competition from Microsoft's Bing.
According to comScore's latest data, Google's search engine market share dipped every-so-slightly from January to February, going from 65.6 percent to 65.4 percent, Bloomberg reports. That's not much, but spread out over time, those little blips start to add up.
Equally important, Microsoft's Bing search engine increased about half a percentage point to 13.6 percent in February. Again, not earth shattering, but also just one month. What this means is that Bing is moving in the right direction, and Google, which still dominates the search engine market, isn't adding any more distance between it and the competition. That includes Yahoo, which stood still at 16.1 percent.
