Computer Engineers Can't Drive Worth a @$*%
Forget about student drivers and that little old lady going 25MPH in a 45MPH speed zone - the worst drivers on the road are computer engineers, according to a study by Churchill Car Insurance.
The insurance company collected and analyzed data from the last three years and put together a list of the top ten most frequently claiming occupations. As it turns out, writing firmware, designing mainboards, and other tasks performed by computer engineers lead to groggy drivers and road rage.
"The poorer claims experience associated with computer engineers, sales managers, chefs, and doctors most likely reflects the long hours they work in a very stressful job," said Tony Chilcott, Head of Churchill Car Insurance. "As a result, they are more likely to be tired when driving and possibly distracted."
On the flip side, farmers are among the safest drivers, at least according to claim frequency.

Churchill Car Insurance is welcome to send its researchers to the race track with myself and my computer engineer buddies to see our driving skills on the NASA HPDE race events, they are free to bring a pair of fresh undies or adult dipers as deemed necessary along with fire suites and crash helmets.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here, and this may be totally false.. BUT.. Aren't a lot of computer engineers Indians? We all know how great they drive...

In my experience farmers are terrible drivers (my uncle and 6 cousins SUCK at driving.) Granted, they can back a trailer etc like nobody's business, but they tend to be quite reckles. Most of the kids that grow up in small farming town also get very little experience driving in big city traffi, so when they do have to go to the walmart in the big city for whatever, they are more likely to get in an accident.
Obviously, this is a flawed experiment though.Farmers spend nearly ALL of their time driving down dirt roads etc. Never driving in the big city where most accidents occur. Anything thats small, like a simple fender bender on main street, probably isn't reported to the insurance company in a small town where everybody is related to everybody else

I couldn't agree more. I am a small town myself. I used to be afraid to drive in the city. But after moving out to college 7 years ago, I pretty much had to deal with driving in the city. Now, it is a piece of cake.

I'd have to somewhat agree. I'm not a bad driver, but sitting in front of a computer all day, especially when it is one of those days where everything isn't working or is just plain annoying, causes a lot of tension on the way home. Either people are driving too slow, making left turns (but not in the turning lane), or just don't know how to drive at all... causes anger! It is times like that, I wish we were in bumper cars, so I could bump them out of the way.. and no one would get hurt.
Though, again, it only happens on days when computers are being a pain and everything causes nothing but stress. =)

Everyone goes the speed limit when they first get their permit....soon enough you'll be speeding everywhere, though

i recently was made redundant and during which time had to renew my car insurance. 10% cheaper for being a pro-bum compared to signing up as a systems engineer... Shame they dont have a category for progamer tbh.
