Companies Are Downloading the Facebook Profile Torrent

It turns out that your nosey neighbor isn't the only one interested in that cache of 100 million Facebook profiles that showed up on torrent trackers. Some major companies that you do business with are getting the package as well. By connecting to the torrent and recording IP addresses that are also in the swarm, some have noticed the extent of interest here.

Among the companies seen downloading the data are Apple, Boeing, Church of Scientology, Disney, Intel, Pepsi Cola, Sony, and Viacom. It is worth noting that the mere fact that connections from these companies are present, does not mean this is a sanctioned action. All it means is that someone inside the company is downloading it. But our experience with corporate IT leads us be suspect Pepsi and Disney aren't in the habit of allowing employees to go around downloading torrents on their own.

So, has anyone figured out a way to read the files, because they are a few hundred megabytes, and one is 10 gigabytes, so Notepad & OpenOffice bork on the text files?

avatarMore Gmail Spam?

could this be the sudden cause of actual spam getting into my Gmail Spam folder? before, my Gmail Spam folder was empty all the time. not stuff is filtering thru it, and now it reads Spam (20) in my account. Also to note, more of those money scams are showing up in my inboxes, as well. Man, another security/privacy issue with Facebook. Won't they ever learn?

avatarI can confirm the Disney does

I can confirm that Disney does not allow individual random cast members to do this. Hell, I know of two graveyard cast members at one of the resorts that were terminated for having Youtube videos running during work. On our internal cast portal we have links to ESPN and many other Disney owned sites. Accessing those is considered non-work releated and get's noticed rather quickly.
