Comcast Defends Itself, Asks for "Clear Rules" on Net Neutrality
Remember when Comcast was sanctioned by the FCC for throttling BitTorrent? Well, they’re still in court trying to get that overturned, but at the same time they’re making some noise about the whole issue of Net Neutrality. On the face of it, their position sounds downright reasonable. Comcast is pushing for “clear rules” for Net Neutrality from the FCC.
The internet giant is apparently worried that the all but inevitable regulations pushed by FCC Chair Genachowski could end up being overly broad and confusing. Comcast says that they were completely surprised that fiddling with users’ BitTorrent connections and lying about it would be frowned upon. They just want to avoid that sort of embarrassing incident in the future.
Comcast also spoke disapprovingly of the tone of debate saying, “It’s truly sad that the debate around “net neutrality,” or the need to regulate to “preserve an open Internet,” has been filled with so much rhetoric, vituperation, and confusion.” There seems to be a bit of a disconnect here, considering a lot of that rhetoric comes from the ISPs. It could be that Comcast is just trying to save face as it becomes clear Net Neutrality will move forward.

I'd rather pay the governemtn and have net neutrality than have comcast fck me over. Why don't you look at other countries that have gov't ran internet it works and it's cheaper.

except they can then filter all the traffic they don't want coming through, whether or not if they should be filtering it.

as if China are the only ones to regulate it. There are many onther countries where the government has a large hand in their data infrasctructure. see Japan.

The almighty dollar really mucks things up ... that and stockholders. If big business wasn't so worried about feeding its stockholders dividends and more worried about infrastructure, they wouldn't have to think about things like compressing their HD channels so they can squeeze more of them thru a tiny cable, or throttling P2P apps [which they still do] so facebook weenies won't feel a slowdown.
Net nutrality shouldn't be a debate ... especially at the federal level. They have bigger problems, like getting back all the TARP money they loaned out. Tell Comcast and Verizon and whomever else provides high speed internet to honor their contracts and provide X speed 24/7 no matter what I'm doing with it.
If plain english isn't good enough for them, babblefish can translate it into whatever language they will understand ... unless babblefish has been throttled due to terrorist activities ... bwaaahahaha

All American ISPs suck they advertise too much, lie too much, and waste too much time and resources throttling and fighting lawsuites. They need to remove their head from their ass and start building a better infrastructure compared to other countries the US has a shit data grid because we let business run it. I feel that water, gas, electric, and internet should be maintained by the gov't we would probably have better throughput and a power grid that works but instead we have a bunch of independent companies screwing us over.

Or you can leave it in the hands of a corporation bent on profit mongering at the consumers expense. Not like there's a lot of competition out there...how many lines do you have coming into your house?
If there really was that much contempt for the government you'd think there'd be an uprising. French revolution anyone?

"Comcast says that they were completely surprised that fiddling with
users’ BitTorrent connections and lying about it would be frowned upon" I dont know what realm they live in, but it has always been bestowed upon me that lying was bad. So I guess, we should track down their parents and ask them how they raised the dumbasses that though it was a good thing to lie to the FCC about there deeds.

I'd REALLY like it if people stopped patronizing Comcast....
As if that were an option. Where do you go when Comcast owns the vast majority of all cable provided in this country? They're a fraggin' monopoly, I tell you.

We wouldn't patronize them if they didn't make it so bloody EASY!
