Chromebooks Get Polished New Interface And A Price Drop Just In Time For The Holidays
If you’re the type of PC user who lives with your head in the cloud, Google’s Chromebooks might have caught your eye. Chromebooks have their share of drawbacks, however – their heavy reliance on the ‘Net being the biggest example – that may scare away potential buyers who are hesitant to dive headfirst into the “Always online” pool. Well, Google’s doing its best to convince folks that the water’s fine, rolling out price cuts, new models and a spiffy new level of spit-shined polish to Chromebooks.
“The Chrome team elves have been busy packing a few goodies into Chromebooks in time for the upcoming holiday season,” The Official Google Blog exclaimed earlier today before launching into the laundry list of changes. In addition to a revamped login screen, New Tab page and Chrome Web Store for Chrome OS itself, the company announced that some Acer and Samsung Chromebooks will be available for just $300 starting sometime this week. In addition, a new black version of the Wi-Fi-only Samsung Series 5 Chromebook is available with a $350 sticker price.
So whaddaya say, Maximum PC readers: do the tweaks and lowered price tag make you more likely to pick up a Chromebook, or do you prefer an operating system that isn’t so heavily reliant on the Web?
