BREAKING NEWS: Steve Jobs Resigns, Tim Cook New Apple CEO
Well here's some big news late on a Wednesday afternoon: Steve Jobs is stepping down as CEO of Apple. There's little information available about the sudden announcement beyond the fact that Tim Cook, previously the COO, will become the new CEO and that Steve Jobs will become chairman of the board.
There's currently no information about the reason behind the resignation, although it's not hard to imagine that Jobs' recent health issues might be a factor.
Here is the text of Jobs' letter of resignation to board of directors:
To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:
I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple''s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple''s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve

I've never been a huge fan of Apple, for most of the reasons that Terrible Toaster listed below. That said, I fear that without Steve Jobs in the Silicon Valley, we will once again see tech companies resting on their laurels when it comes to true innovation and ingenuity: using our current and near-future tech in ways that have been previously unforseen or unattainable. Without Steve Jobs, I wouldn't have my cool Android phone.
Steve, I hope you are able to help Apple lead the field in bringing augmented reality to the general population. I hope you are able to continue to challenge the rest of the Silicon Valley to actually use their great minds to push our technology in ways that can be useful (and addictive) in our daily lives - and in ways where it will change our lives.
Best wishes, Mr. Jobs, you've raised the bar. You've created a revolution in technology and consumer electronics.

Putting Apple on the side for the moment. I wish Steve Jobs the best! (^<_^) Let us hope his physical condition improves. At minimal I hope his passing will be without a lot of pain if his health has progressed in that direction.
!\! <(^-^<) Please get well soon! (>^-^)> !/!

Steve Jobs has helped to pioneer some of the greatest innovations in hardware and software over the course of the past few decades, revolutionized the way people interact with digital devices as well as how digital devices interact with people, and forced others to innovate in order to match Apple's progress. He also played an important role in helping prevent Microsoft from becoming a monopoly power.
That said, he has enacting some of the most vile business policies using Apple; such as forcing monopolistic competition (in the course of trying to force a monopoly), shaping Apple into a profit-maximizing company, bundling products, promoting/allowing the promotion of untrue or exaggerated information regarding Apple products, and attempting to prevent the formation of competitive market but forcing out rivals, besides other frown upon business practices (and some anti-trust violations that the US government is mulling over).
Simply put, Steve Jobs is a great tech giant and a sleazy business douche. I don't know if there has been a man in recent history that was as simultaneously both loved and hated to such extreme a degree as him. So I am sadden that the tech world is losing such a charismatic CEO and frightened that such a cutthroat businessman may be (may be = most certainly will be) Apple's next Chairman of the Board of Directors. Here's to hoping that the Tech Budda had a change of heart and won't try to screw over the world.

It's best for his health, and I believe Tim Cook will do just fine. Cook was definitely groomed to be the CEO and as part of Jobs' succession plan. Honestly, the stock will go down but when the iPhone 5 is released then I'm sure stocks will go back up again.
Also, Jobs isn't complete gone. He'll serve as Chairman of the Board (if the board sees fit), it's just that his daily duties at Apple will be transfered to Cook who will carry on the CEO/COO role.

But Cook is not the product wizrd like Jobs is. Cook may be a finance wizard, but needs to prove he can introduce products that the public will purchase, not just update exisiting ones. Look what happened to Apple the last time Jobs left, it took a Microsoft bailout to keep them afloat until Jobs returned from his new venture with NeXT (which spawned Pixar and Mac OS X).

Hardly. Jobs has been grooming Cook for a long time. I'm confident that Cook will do well as a CEO. Remember that Jobs isn't completely gone from Apple, he's chairman of the board and an Apple Employee. They will probably continue to use him as more of a consultant, that way majority of the day-to-day will be given to Cook.

I dunno, until Cook masters force lightning and the force choke, two manuevers of which Emperor Jobs was a master, I'm withholding judgement on iCult's new Sith Lord.

see, the Media feeds us LIES. They are just trying to brainwash people for their own propaganda... Or because possibly Apple bribed them.

Well a lot of people stand to lose a lot of money if Apple's stock doesn't soar.

To be honest. A part of me looks forward to the market's reaction tomorrow, as the stock price at Apple plummets. Yet, a part of me feels bad for Steve Jobs, if his health was really the issue. I've got some mixed feelings about this one.

I agree with you here. As much as I dislike Apple, I respect Steve Jobs for what he's done for technology.
