Brazilian Overclocker Gooses Phenom X4 975 to 7.134GHz
It takes a little bit of luck, the right components, and a whole lot of liquid nitrogen to set new CPU overclocking records, and all three played a factor in pushing an AMD Phenom II X4 975 processor to 7.134GHz.
There have been faster overclocks before, but this is the highest anyone has ever taken an AMD chip. And while it required LN2 cooling, keep in mind that the stock frequency is 3.6GHz. For those of you who still aren't impressed, consider that there's never been a higher overclock on anything other than old Celeron and Pentium 4 processors.
The overclock was performed on an Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard. With LN2 in place, the Brazilian team was able to crank up the voltage to 1.788V and the multiplier from 18 to 31.5.

Similar to setting a land speed record. Nobody is going to drive a jet propelled car for transportation. It's all about the challenge.

I never did get the point of these endevours. Call me when someone can sustain these speeds on air and actually do some work with it.

I suggest a sticker to be proudly displayed on such systems.
"BCIPC Approved" (but can it play crysis).

You know, I just recently learned to make 3d stickers... I think I'll do that.

When posting any technological benchmark article, the question "but can it play crysis?" is as sure as death and taxes. At least until crysis 2 comes out.

For how long does a thermos of nitrogen last?
Did they play Crysis?
