Bing Gets Desperate and Adds Twitter Messages to Search Results

In what appears to be a desperate dig for traffic, Bing has decided to add Twitter messages to their search results in an attempt to take some market share from Google.
“We’re not indexing all of Twitter at this time… just a small set of prominent and prolific Twitterers to start. We picked a few thousand people to start, based primarily on their follower count and volume of tweets. We think this is an interesting first step toward using Twitter’s public API to surface Tweets in people search,” wrote Microsoft search general manager Sean Sucher. These results will appear in a separate box alongside the normal search results within Bing.
Ultimately, it’s not too surprising to see Microsoft do this – considering how Google has already admitted defeat in the real-time information race with Twitter.

Their whole marketing campaign has been built around saying Bing cuts through the crap on the Internet to find you useful results. How likely is it to find something useful in the bazillions of inane and insipid comments of a mere 140 characters or less that is twitter. If there is a more concentrated collection of useless crap on this planet than twitter, I have yet to hear of it.

Wow, thanks for babbling.
To the point... Bing would have to be significanly better than Google to pull away significant business. And it just isn't. I applaud anyone trying to introduce real competition (even M$), but they'll need to do better than this.

I don't see it as "getting deperate". I see it as smart business sence. M$ (bing) whats the traffic just like google does. Beside imho, twitter, myspace, facebook, etc. are all meeting places for pedophiles, spouses looking to cheat, and the socially challenged. I refuse to join any of said sites (although I have a myspace account but have not used, updated, emailed, or anything of the sort in almost 2 years.). So actually, this article means nothing to me ;)

why is it "getting desperate" and not simply "adding a new feature". Nice editorializing.
