I can understand boycotting Apple because of business practices (I do that to Walmart). But because it's a competitor? What are you? Twelve? Fanboy KIDS boycott Nintendo because they love SONY or boycott SONY because they love Xbox, but boycotting a competitor's products because they are a competitor is just plain stupid.

When Ford's CEO Alan Mulallywas asked about Toyota he said they make the best cars in the world. Why? Because he wants to beat them!

I once asked a Nike employee if they were allowed to wear other competitor's shoes and he said no. I told that explains why Nike shoes are garbage compared to what they used to be.

If you never get your head out of the sand the world is going to pass you buy.

But then again...maybe this is just a filthy rich woman doing some cheer-leading for her husband's old company. Maybe everyone who actually WORKS at Microsoft is rocking an iPhone. After all they HAD to look at how it works in order to make their imitator Windows phone, just like they had to look at Macintosh to makes Windows right? RIGHT???

Actually, the reason is, that if they allow the kids to all get iPhones, Apple can use that to say "LOOK!!! Even the gates won't use their own Windows 7 phones & got iPhones!" & that could be bad for Microsoft bottom line. So I can understand why Bill placed a Ban on all iDevices.

I find honesty is the best policy... openness about ones inner emotions helps logic overcome right?

Talk about Jailbait!

Ironically, it was my purchase of a Windows Phone 7 device that killed my need for a Zune.

If I was one of their kid I'd just get an Android smartphone, since those are the best on the market anyways.

Hey.That_Dude

So here's a question... SINCE android is based on linux which is open source and technically free. Does the Gates family allow android/linux/Unix(free ones) into their home? It's not technically supporting their competitors, as M$ still makes money off of android device sales. In addition it's practically impossible to buy a pre build machine with linux on it so they still payed for a Windows licence whether they are using it or not.
Just Curious.

I was wondering the same thing....I've been eyeing some of the new android phones out now...I have an iPhone 4 and wasn't all that impressed with iPhone 5 upon release. Thinking of going back to Android, but would it be allowed in the Gates home? Lol....if it is, I'd just get me a new android phone if I was them.

~It {the zune} still plays mp3s .. so the fact that the Zune is dead is irrelevant ... The eccosystem was doomed at launch. But I can still put my MP3s on the device.. That is all I need. If I want to keep up with the times I have spotify.. on windows, Mac ( if I had one ) and Linux .. so.. carry on.

acidic

i don't allow crapple or sony products in my house

avatar

maxeeemum

Yep! I ban all Apple products myself!

I understand the Sony hate too! They do some incredibly bad stuff. A company run by morons. But I still use their products like PlayStation.

avatar

John Pombrio

That's a big fall for SONY to be listed as banned from a house. Time was..

Heh, I bought a Zune HD last year although it was the very last unit that the store had. I bought it mainly for the media playback (music and video) but the thing has some decent basic Internet access via Wi-fi so I'm not complaining. Hell, I was able to get it for 50% the price of an iPod (since it was the very last unit they had available, they gave me a "clearance" price). If I'm not mistaken, I think I've seen Windows Phones that are much lower in price compared to the iPhones.

Zune dying has no relevance. MP3 players in general are dying, as any smartphone can play music just as easily, without the need of having 2 separate devices.

avatar

I might have to slightly disagree only because of the price of a smartphone and unless you want to be tide to the carrier as well. Or buy it "unlocked" which cost a lot are not really easy to get unless you buy it "used" from somebody or given away. MP3 players are cheap for music. Until the day comes where smartphones are easily obtainable without a contract commitment or paying full price for a "unlocked phone". MP3 players will continue to have their place.

It simply boils down to price. I prefer a smartphone but without the contracts and the hassles. Sure there are prepaid phone but still that's not really cheap. The only thing you can get that can compete against MP3 players is the ipod touch.

New cell phone starting in 2013 and some already have are unlocked when you get them from the carrier, I know that the Note2 and other come unlocked, but you are still tired to a 2year contract.

Personally I don't see the point crippling the device functionality so that you can have more battery life. What's the point in buying a Ferrari if you never drive over 10mph!

Some of us use both because we can't afford to have out cell (business) phone on the charger all the time or a dead battery on it. They keep making the screens bigger, I say how about the battery. Give me enough power to run the dang thing with our having to be tethered to a power outlet, or cripple the devices to nearly unusable because you turned everything off to conserve power.

Why would they need an Apple product? Just because Zune is dead doesn't mean they must have an iPod. There are hundreds of other media players out there.

And what the hell is with the I New York shirt. What exactly does that mean?

avatar

acidic

that is the logo for the store chain target. i guess that makes her a terrorist as she targets ny

avatar

JamesfromDFW

I (Beats Audio Logo) NY

avatar

Briggins

I b New York. Its a beats shirt.

avatar

firefox91

I started something about the shirt, didn't I? So I see it is a Beats logo now. The way the white headphone wires came down the front of her shirt made it look like the wires were covering up a Target store logo. Still, "I Beats New York" makes less sense than what I thought it was.

avatar

alabasterdragon

So because it's a logo shirt, the slogan automatically makes sense?!?

how about

I Alka-Seltzer NY.

That makes as much sense to me.

avatar

Happy

The shirt makes perfect sense. It's saying "I b (be) New York" In other words, it's saying "I am New York." As in, "I'm the essence of New York" or "I'm a New Yorker."

The shirt makes perfect sense. It's using horrible ghetto speak but still, it makes sense.

avatar

Briggins

Please don't take your frustration out on me. I simply explained the shirt.

avatar

Peanut Fox

Well the very mention of the state New York does give me terrible indigestion ;)

avatar

alabasterdragon

That's the very thought I had.
