BenQ Announces Two Desktop Displays with 5,000,000:1 Contrast Ratios
It's all about the contrast, baby, or at least that's true over at BenQ's headquarters. The value-oriented peripheral maker this week announced a pair of 15.6-inch LED-backlit monitors -- G610HDAL and G610HDPL -- both of which boast a dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1.
In fact, the two screens share quite a bit in common. Both sport a 1366x768 resolution and are rated with an 8ms response time. And according to BenQ, the two new models are capable of automatically adjusting their brightness to room lighting conditions.
This brings us to the primary difference between the two. The G610HDAL claims a slighter brighter output of 250 nits courtesy of its glossy screen, while the G610HDPL has an anti-glare screen and produces 220 nits.
No word yet on when these will ship or what they'll cost.

Please don't bother with dynamic ratio #'s. Static or bust.
I guess if you absolutely must, then try to compare it to something else with both ratios listed so we can get an idea closer to the truth.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but Viewsonic has had for a while now, something along these lines, but better:
http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX1932wm-LED-19-Inch-WLED-Backlit-Efficient/dp/B002R0JJY4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265397304&sr=8-1
It has a 10,000,000 dynamic contrast, a higher res of 1680*1050, and it's only $130 with shipping.

Didn't you just say yesterday:
"Unfortunately, the manufacturers’ propensity for using different
methodologies and unstated variables in their measurements has
effectively rendered this specification meaningless. The industry has
further muddied the waters by introducing entirely new variations of
this measurement, such as dynamic contrast ratio. We recommend you
ignore this spec when comparing LCD monitors."Then you post an article praising a high contrast ratio? I love you guys, and have for years, but are things getting bumpy without Will around any more or something?

To clarify, we're not "praising" BenQ's monitor or contrast ratio, but reporting on a new product announcement.

i don't think these screen are meant for you. ths high contrass would come in handy for content creation, maybe image editing or something.

the problem is these are far too small to be useful at all in either content creation or image editing
