Battlefield Developer: PC Gamers Deserve Extra Features Because They “Put up with More Crap”
Posted 10/26/09 at 10:30:14 PM by Nathan Grayson

It’s a hard-knock life for us PC gamers. Long waits for games, glitch-ridden ports, patches that patch other patches – it’s all in the job description. But really, it’s not such a bad gig, especially when you’ve got allies like Battlefield developer DICE in your corner.
“The PC platform is usually expected to put up with a lot more ‘crap’ compared to consoles. While consoles may get the game on a certain date, PC users typically have to wait much longer for the same game, but in turn, they get the game for a lower price because there are no licensing fees like consoles have, and typically they get a few more perks thrown in compared to consoles just for good measure,” DICE community manager “Zerk16” replied when asked why a number of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 features are dodging consoles’ draft and defecting to the PC.
“Now, the reasons the PC platform are getting seemingly ‘better’ features in the game are a result of DICE ignoring the PC user base for the past 3-4 years and this is a homage to the PC platform, and also because it’s a lot of things that PC users simply deserve. If you have played games on the PC for the last ten years you would know what I’m talking about, otherwise I won’t even try to explain.”
“Better” features – in this case – include higher graphical resolutions, the ability to go prone, higher player counts in multiplayer matches, and DEDICATED SERVERS. Er, sorry about that. Sometimes we just can’t control the volume of our own voices. It’s the weirdest thing.
Obvious ploy to capitalize on Modern Warfare 2’s recent gaffe or not, though, we certainly appreciate the goodwill. So, those of you with a little extra boycott-borne scratch in your pockets, is Bad Company 2 on your radars?

... because Borderlands for the PC is the latest example of a total ass-tastic console-to-PC port. Let me clarify here becaus I think the GAME is pretty good, but the Windows VERSION of the game is just a slap in the face to the PC audience. It could easily be the butt of a thousand "You know you're playing a console port when..." jokes. If you haven't played it yet, just be prepared to manually modify the settings in 3-4 .ini files, forward 4 ports on your router, dig up that 10 year old gamespy arcade ID, and still have to deal with insane oversights like not being able to skip a 5 minute intro movie if you fail to babysit the game while it loads. And game developers wonder why people pirate their games...
Now were talking...

I seem to have an extra $60 lying around out of nowhere...and a receipt for a cancelled pre-order....
My money is going to go to people who care, and I'm looking at this or possibly L4D2. Even Borderlands looks fun. So many choices, all heads and shoulders above Modern Failfare 2.
Why?

Why be a fool and buy MW2 for PC at $60? That's what IW is hoping you
are anyway. Just buy it for the console cuz thats all it is, a console
game. If you can't handle patches, just play with your JOY stick
controller thing. BF FTW

A keyboard and mouse will ALWAYS win over a gamepad when it comes to FPS and precision!
I don't play many shooters online (Except for CS: S, L4D, TF2 and the odd Battlefield) so I'll be getting MW2.

I kinda disagree with the price going down, as said in the article.... usually a game will come out anywhere from a week to a month on avereage after the console versions.... but the game is still a hefty price.... sometimes you're lucky and it'll be $10 cheaper. But as said before, that's the least they can do for the patches required right after we install it...... but we also get a ton more features..... I like beer..... Rolling Rock...... I still have my MW2 on preorder because I think it will be better than nothing... maybe I'm a traitor, I dunno, but I think a lot of us are getting it cuz of the curiosity. Borderlands is looking pretty tits, too and I'm gonna snag that when it comes out next week.
DICE - "patches that patch

DICE - "patches that patch other patches" ™
They should have this as their slogan with trademark
When it comes to DICE the reasons why PC gamers deserve extra features put in this article are all wrong, the real reasons is because PC gamers when they buy DICE games pay for BETA or even ALPHA versions of games, with 2 years of struggling with patches that patch previous patches, and get abandoned before the game reaches final stage.
So, yes, sure, we deserve more then what we payed for!
Its good to know that

Its good to know that developers like DICE acknowledge and support what the PC gaming community wants. Looks like I may have to pick up Bad Company 2 instead of spending my money on that "other game".
