@KillFnord
I run Crysis on High - Very High.
It seems highly unlikely that DICE will release a monster like any of Crytek's creations. As such, I'm nearly certain that I'll run BF3 on Medium, at the very least.

How well would you say an ATI Radeon HD 5770 could run this?
I plan on upgrading in the near future, but unti I come across the funds to do so, I'd still like to actually be able to play the game that I pre-ordered.

Ok Im Running A AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.5ghz with 8GB ram in it Its G.Skill Ripsaw X series right now for a video card i have a old 768MB GeForce 9600 GSO card in it the card has ran most of the games i play on pretty good setting but for crysis warhead and wars and cry 2 its on the lowest setting of course im getting a GTX 580 In a few days when it comes in the mail well UPS i should say but i wondering if someone could shed some light on it for me will my comp bottleneck the card or will the card bottleneck my computer cause it nots really a high end computer just the best AMD Cpu next to the AMD Opteron x12 i just want to know if i could play it on max setting's or next to max setting's or if i should try something else i never liked INTEL always burn hot and die faster on you from heat over load if your not running LC on it so if anyone can comment on it let me know thanks

This might be a dumb question, but why do you play Crysis on lowest settings? I'm not the brightest crayon, but it sounds to me like you have a pretty decent set up to run it at least clost to high settings. I myself with both my desktop and laptop can run full settings. I haven't noticed any problems. I do agree with you with Intel. Both of my computers run hot, but my desktop is approx 3-4 years old and so far (knock on wood) the intel Q6600 has been phenominal. No problems.
I am curious what answers you get, because i myself am wondering at what setting i can run my rigs at.

Well, ummm.. this is embarrassing. I just read some of the rigs you guys have and wow! This might be a stupid question, but i was wondering if you could tell me if you think i could run this game on high graphics with both my desktop and laptop. Please don't laugh too hard at my pieces of crap.
Desktop:Mainboard: Asus P5K Processor: Intel Quad 6600 @2.4 Ram: Kinston 8GB Video Card: NVIDIA 8800GT (nothing is overclocked)
Laptop: Dell mainboard: Processor: i7 2720QM @ 2.2 Ram: (unsure of brand have to get back to you on that) 16GB Video Card: NVIDIA 555M (has a 3D monitor, NVIDIA, will this game play decent 3D?)
So ya.... try not to laugh, just wondering if i should upgrade before buying this game. I want to try and play at the highest graphics. A game such as this one looks, it should be played at highest graphics.

My current working PC is a laptop....with a Radeon HD3200 graphics card....
No playing this until I finish building my next desktop, which will just happen to have a 6850.
That will be plenty enough horsepower to play it at the res I intend to. I don't need to play games at 16192 by 12800 or what ever crazy res you people try on a 30" monitor.

My friend has similar graphics cards as you do and was able to play Crysis 2 at around 60FPS on "High" settings. You should be able to play BF3 at Medium-high settings. Not entirely sure. You should be fine. ^^

Wow, why is there a massive 5gb difference between the digital version and the retail version? If anything, shouldn't the disk version be smaller as some of the stuff could just stay on the disk or whatever? I am not a programmer, but I am intrigued about the size difference between the formats.
Finally, there is a game with Direct X10 as a minimum! I thought every game ever released was Direct X9.0c, so this is actually good news. The game's graphics looks very nice, but I am not really into war games. I would love to see more adventure games feature these kinds of graphics though.
What will ARMA 3 require? Battlefield 3 is impressive, so I can only imagine that ARMA 3 is going to blow my mind away. For now, I will dream about adventure games featuring these movie-like graphics.
My PC definitely meets minimum requirements to run the game, but only half of the recommended stats. With that said, I will not worry so much if I do end up getting the game. Why are war games so popular though? I want more friendly games with intense graphics!

I wonder this as well.
Maybe the disc version has a bonus disc with 5 gigs of "the making of" videos that for some reason they want you to put on the hard drive instead of reading it from the disc like, you know, a DVD player (what a novel concept. :P )

I am not sure why it is. I have noticed the download versions say "limited edition" so my best bet is that the retail version is the unlimited edition? I am not sure. Either way, I have always prefer the hard copy as you can see the box art and fill your shelf up nicely. But I know that the future is downloads, so this is why EA made the download version smaller in size. Make it sound more pleasing to those with SSDs.

No. Well yes, but that is because I'm in the middle of a build now, running a AMD Athlon II 250 in a 990FX chipset!!! Waiting on AMD to release the 8 core Bulldozer.

personally I wouldn't wait on a 8 core cpu. More cores does not mean it is going to be faster. Its unknown whether these games will support 8 cores or not, but who knows. Just get a nice fast one thats already out and overclock it.

Exactly. I'd look at grabbing a high-end Phenom II x4 or x4 black edition. Will get you lots of performance, plus fully unlocked CPU perfect for overclocking. Set up a nice CPU water-cooler and you're set!

It's not a matter of can this game take advantage of 8 cores, it's having 8 cores!!
My current system (Intel Core i7-875K, 8gig RAM, 2x5770) should be more than enough for this game right now, so it's not like this AMD system is a necessity to play this game. Really just building it to get SATA III, and USB 3.

I agree . It's still exclusive to preorder on Origin. I don't care about requirements .

Well... It is no longer exclusive to Origin. Now you may get it anywhere other than Steam. Here are ALL of the places where you may pre-order it, and download.
http://www.direct2drive.com/10557/product/Buy-Battlefield-3-Limited-Edition-Download
http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-BF3/battlefield-3-limited-edition
http://www.impulsedriven.com/battlefield3
If you prefer a hard copy, you may pre-order at these sites:
http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/battlefield-3-limited-edition/90173
Now, the GameStop one is a little tempting only because of the extras. I do not know why Steam does not have this game up for pre-order... Or if, at all. Although they have a history of rejecting games, just like what they did with Crysis 2. So at least there is a strong amount of choices out there. As you already know, Origin already has this game for pre-order. That makes 6 choices in total. Best of luck for whatever you choose. Cheers.

The graphics look great, single player seems really fun, but lets not forget the BF series isn't single player. Its multiplayer with hugh maps, capture points, jets, choppers, tanks and a ton of other vehicles. If this is linear and scripted then its just going to be another mwf or cod fail. I just hope that its similar to bf2 and bf vietnam and less like bad company. Crossing fingers!

I wish I could play that but I know when that comes out I be able to even play it online because my Rural Area has such Crap broadband. I can't wait until a Broadband Company comes in and builds a network in my Rural Area.
