Battlefield 3 Servers Hacked To Allow More Players, DICE Threatens Curious Gamers
When life hands PC gamers lemons – like news that the massive $1.6m Battlefield 3 tourney is console-only – they figure out a way to hack the lemons to bits and make lemonade. In this case, gamers have gained access to 128-player support for the “Operation Metro” map available in the BF3 beta, which isn't offered on the official servers. Don’t necessarily go rushing out to find the action, though; DICE, the makers of the game, thinks the lemonade tastes mighty bitter and they’re threatening to swing the banhammer at anyone who participates in the unsanctioned fun.
“We are aware that a number of servers have appeared and are running game modes and player counts that have not currently been seen. Please try to remain on official servers,” DICE representative Bazajaytee wrote on the BF3 forums. “…Please avoid temptation and remain on these official servers while we work to have these servers dealt with. Playing on those servers can cause your account to become compromised, stats to be altered or other issues to arise which may lead to having your account banned by EA.”
In subsequent posts, Bazajaytee warned that if EA banned your Origin account for non-sanctioned BF3 play, you’d also lose access to your entire portfolio of Origin games -- which obviously includes the ones you've paid for previously. Awesome, huh? “If you continue going on the servers over and over then it is a choice you are making on your own accord,” Bazajaytee said. “Especially now you have been informed of the situation.” The servers appear right in the main Battlelog, though; what if players don't check the forums before hopping on for some hot 128-player action?
Not that we’d recommend bucking the system or anything, but in response to news of the banhammer threat, Steam forum member <AvA>Duff5000 casually noted that curious gamers could “Create a new origin/EA account, play on modded servers with different maps, game modes and player counts!” Just sayin’.

Since when did it get so many people pissed off to have your own server used for games like BF3? If i can recall, back when TF2 and CSS were popular, hacked servers with extensive multiplayers mods and increase playernumbers were pretty commonplace. And banning someone from using the games THEY paid for (as long as not using unfair cheat tactics i.e. aimbots) is TOTALLY crap.

will the official release of this game be 128 player-based? i mean, i do not usually play online for shooters, but during that beta tournament on gamespot only had maybe 8v8 on it. if they want to immerse players, i think battles should be larger - much larger. of course it will create lag, but for as much as people will be paying for the game, i imagine it would be doable.
i also did not like that the beta was loaded onto my SSD, instead of my designated Game Drive (F:). i thought origin worked like steam, where i could load the software onto my F: drive, then all of it's games would load there, as well. however, with origin, the beta still ended up on the C: drive, even when asked "where do you want to install it?" - i chose F: .

Not sure about 128 player battles (those would have to be some absolutely HUGE maps), but 64 players are confirmed.
As for where Origin installs games, I think you MIGHT be able to change. Check the properties page. The game files are stored in Program Files (x86 for 64bit OS) Origin Games.

What your seeing is the fall of EA. I was banned from their forums a year ago for point a few things out about their service that they would rather keep quite. As a resut i was also LOCK OUT OF BC2 because of my forum suspension?
Banning players from games they have paid for is why i can no longer publicly condemn piracy of their games. Their position has gotten to a point that is just so asinine that there is basically no morel reason to not to steel their games when they make it a matter of policy to do the same to paying gamers. I honestly have to question the legal grounds for what they are doing and will continue my boycott of EA.

What were you banned for? Most forums that I frequent don't ban someone unless they're being a total frakken asshat and don't listen to the warnings that they're given.

Why is it; when a company (such as DICE) HANDS out something for free, that some prick(s) has to try and f***k it up for the rest of the players that are out just to have some "free" fun.
As for this comment :<AvA>Duff5000 casually noted that curious gamers could " Create a new origin/EA account, play on modded servers with different maps, game modes and player counts!”
I'm pretty sure this wouldn't work; as EA will undoubtedly ban their IP address, AND their Origin account. Just sayin'

Unless you pay for a dedicated IP, your IP will change (and easy to make it change if you have to)... UUMM 99% of the Geeks know this like in day 1 of geek school... Just saying banning IP's is useless...

Why does EA have to be a bunch of dickheads and ban people in the first place? Second IP bans don't work since you don't have a static IP address. It's EA being EA nothing changes.

A good example of why buying games on an online store (Origin, Steam, etc.) is a poor investment idea.
If you get banned for something in one game, you lose access to all of your games.

Then don't do anything stupid that will get your account banned! If you're a hacker, cheat or whatever then just buy the games on disc. It's only the client's fault if they ban your account by mistake. Everything else is on you.

Oh no, not my Origin account in which I created only so that I could try out the beta. Whatever would I do if they banned that?

Is it safe to assume that people are mad that EA is banning people for hacking a server that isn't supposed to be accessed?? Did people really think EA was gonna see them running around and say "Aww shucks! they're just having a little fun. play away, play away..."?

Actually the servers are owned by individuals and they are running them on different game modes. EA is acting childish and if they do start banning people there will probably be a big uproar.

If there were 128 players on the map, I would know where a lot of people are since they won't be able to camp like lil' pussies as often.

Camping only sucks if you're taken out by someone who is properly using cover, and you didn't see them.
Just like real life.

Bazajaytee also asked everyone to only shoot 1 round per second, don't hide behind any barriers or obstacles, and if you are under 50% health please don't run and instead walk like you are wounded. Only play during 6pm-9pm eastern, set your mouse's resolution to 300dpi and don't use a mouse pad. Please don't take potty breaks except once an hour on the 30 minute mark and stop eating Doritos while playing, unless you have a sniper rifle, then you can't eat Sour Cream and Chive or Sour Cream an Onion chips. No Saltines are allowed for anyone.
Bazajaytee also said anyone who can prove they got grandma to buy a copy and play at least 30 minutes will get a free special forces beret and can eat Saltines while playing, but only for the next 6 months. After that, Saltines are banned again. The only to way to remove the ban is to get another elderly relative to buy a copy of the game, at full price, and play for 30 minutes. PC gamers are illegable for this offer. Any that ask will have their operating system erased.
Bazajaytee also reiterrated that curiosity is the root of all evil and leads to incest. Anyone caught asking questions must get married, have 20 kids, and make them all pray 1,000 times a day until their Origin account reflects their accenstion on the Holy Corporate Ladder Of Being A Good Obidient Customer, at which time they can buy DLC packs at 150% markup. Steam users are the Spawn of Satan and must be hunted down and killed.

128 players on Metro? Not only is that a lagfest, but would anyone get anywhere?! I mean, imagine 128 players in the subway section...

Set up a wall of support, behind some good cover and it'd be a slaughter! On the other hand, one well placed grenade will yeild a huge kill count...
