Barack Obama USB Drive Promises 8GB You Can Believe In
Want to make a lasting impression at the next Junior Republican Convention? Just tell everyone you have the President in your pocket, and you don't even have to fib about it thanks to Active Media, makers of the WWF Penguin and Panda USB drives. The USB manufacturer today adds the 8GB Obama USB drive to its growing lineup of unique flash media.
"The drive is loaded with content to explore. We've more than doubled the bonus content compared to our original Obama drive," noted Jerry Thomson, vice president of marketing at Active Media Products. "This historically important product is offered at a time when the country celebrates its 233 year birthday."
More specifically, the 8GB USB drives comes pre-loaded with 80MB of material ranging from high resolution phots of President Obama and the First Lady, to over two hours of speeches in MP3 format. Also included are several speeches in PDF form.
Both the original 2GB and newer 8GB capacities are available now for $10 and $30, respectively.

Have to say, great idea, even a non-Obama follower could learn abit about him and hear, see and read what he has said.
Its a neat little USB, but abit too lack lustre for me as i consider it a tad too small storage wise.
A 32 GB or bigger unit would fit my needs better.
But i have to say i love the idea and hey, you're not paying 300+$ for an autograph or signature item, 30$ wont burn a hole in ones pocket exatcly.
It all comes down to the simple and democratic term of choosing for yourself, dont want it, dont buy it.
Release a 32Gb unit or bigger and i would buy one and i'm not an Obama follower or even an US citizen, but i would love to learn more about Obama (with all the stuff in one place). I'm not sure if most of you US peeps know what an impact Obama has had on the world and here in Europe and my small lil country Sweden. If a swede would considering buying something like this, doesnt that make you wonder...?

You mean you'd buy it for the propoganda that's on it? I'm sure there's nothing remoetly demeaning towards Obama on it...

Well its for whoever is interested to learn or read about it.
Then its up to you to decide what you believe in or not, no one is forcing you to buy one. Just because you read about him doesnt mean you gonna get brainwashed, sounds like you're very afraid of that.
Its up to you what you want, you have to freedom to decide what you want to do, unless you live in N korea, in that case we need to jail you for using internet. (and that was a joke in case you didnt get it).
Brilliant idea and kudos for MPC for making an article about it. And again 30$ wont burn a hole in my pocket and i will not be getting one unless they start selling 32Gb ones or bigger.

Of course not everything mass-produced will turn into high-dollar items. I used to buy/sell obscure trading cards from 1994-1999. It wasn't until I sold my entire collection that I learned most of it never grew in value. But some unexpected items sold for WAY more than I would've ever anticipated. Rise in the Euro probably helped too.

I probably wouldnt buy this drive for three reasons:
1) Its more expensive than most drives of equal capacity
2)Obama is human like everyone else. But this falls under the same category as buying celeb-autographs for three hundred dollars.
3) I like having my flash drives squeaky clean, sans content. But hey I can always format it.

It's what made it great, and slowly is slowly killing it.
But anyway, I don't see what everyone is getting mad at MaximumPC about for running as story about a simple flash drive. It's not like they are forcing you to buy it! If you think maximumPC is full of BS, then why don't you take a jaunt down to PC world. They have pretty much turned into J-14 for computers, maximumPC is pretty much the only site that tells it like it is.
And on another note, this is only 30 dollars? wow, thats cheap for an imprinted drive, especially one that is preloaded with stuff.

Without a doubt, I have better things to do with my time. However, when multiple readers complain about people squelching others because they have a differing political leaning, it becomes my problem.
This isn't the wild west. The comments of this site should be a place to discuss tech with other people who want to discuss tech, in a rational, reasonable way. So far, we've managed to make due without much in the way of moderation; however, if people can't behave and follow the extremely basic rules (no ad hominem attacks, don't be a dick), then we'll add moderators and people will be banned for breaking the rules. It's really very simple.

I remember when Maximum PC was known for "Minimum BS". Apparently, times have changed because this site is starting to report fake stories as truth much like Tom's Hardware has been doing on weekends. Lol. I also don't know why anyone would Obama in his pocket. shame on Maximim Pc for implying something sinister, sinful, stupid and strange.

WTF are you talking about? How is this a fake story? What are you smoking? What is wrong with having having a usb with a pic of Obama? Keep your opinions to your self, or stfu. You are stupid and strange.

How is this a fake story? Some company is making a product, we reported on that product. We were a little cheeky with the writeup, but if you don't like that, then Maximum PC is probably not for you. We've been using the same voice and style for the last 13 or so years though, so it's not like it's a new thing.

This Obama drive sounds good and will probably appear properly in Explorer. After a while, however, it won't live up to it's specifications. It will work quite fast but the results won't be as expected, it may even turn it's back on the computer and try doing it's own thing despite original promises to work a specific way. In time you'll probably wish you'd purchased another drive with a more reliable track record.
Buyer beware.

I already have a drive just like this. Only its has pics and vids of women loaded on to it and they wernt preloaded and it doesnt have obamas face and its an old 1gb stick and some of the women dont have alot of clothing.. Other than that its the same. Also mine is bigger and kind of ugly.
But yeah this thing is dumb, just more expolitation of the fan fair. Now if they made one with 1980's Michael Jacson with all of his songs preloaded that would be something. Throw in some Ferra pics with a few Tonight Shows clips and some Oxy Clean adds, then, THEN youve got somethign historic.

To be perfectly clear, I would be taking the same actions were people behaving childishly on any topic: Obama, McCain, Bob Dole, Michael Jackson, the price of tea in China, or the color of my socks.
You guys are welcome to try to make this about politics, but it's not. It's about behaving like rational, civilized human beings. If you can't do that, you simply aren't welcome here.

I completely agree with Cleaner's comments. For me, when I saw the USB drive I thought it would make a nice gift for a friend. (not for me of course)
I am sure articles are choosen based on will our readers enjoy this? I guarantee they are not asking who can we piss off today. So enjoy your cup of free speech and turn the page.

I'm with a couple of other people on this. I really don't want politics on the site, so why even post this? They have hundreds of different types of USB's, how does one with Barak Obama's face on it make it post worthy?
A lot of what-ifs, but my advice would be to just not post silly stuff like this unless it is truly news worthy. Like he signs some sort of technology law that affects us in the PC world. My first thought when I viewed this post was immediatly negative and the news benefit of it is purely silly.

I have to agree, not that my opinion matters of course. Posting something like this then banning people for making political statements is pretty ridiculous. Of course, we can't see what they wrote, so maybe their comments were above and beyond plain political commentary. I guess most of us will never know.

I fail to see how this is an "historically important product". Historically important things are stuff like the Treaty of Versailles (go look it up, I'll wait), the first telegraph, the first microprocessor, things of that sort. If this was the first flash drive and it just happened to have Obama's image on it, then it might qualify.

The makers of the product, not Maximum PC, are the ones calling it a historically important product. Hyperbole is a common tool of people who, let's face it, want to sell as much stuff as they can.

Comments martial law is in effect. I don't care what side of the fence you are on, but if you post a comment in this thread that's about anything other than the HARDWARE mentioned in this post, you'll get a 30-day ban. If your comment goes away, that means it was off topic or a response to something offtopic, and I deleted it. Please don't repost, or you'll be banned. This is NOT a politics site, and I won't tolerate the kind of inane "My guy is better than yours" BS that goes on there.

how can you post this and not have it be political? 8 GB flash drives have been around for a while, how can we only talk about hardware when the main point of the article is about a politician?

It's really easy. We can post it, then say "Don't post about your politics here" and then you don't post about politics.

Lay down da lay will!
Im neutral to this. I think it is another event in a line of Obama fanboyism (think: Obama donut?) but its a capitalist market and if it will sell and contribute to a way out of the current economic hole, i think im for it.
