Ballmer: Vista was "Not Executed Well"
It's no secret that Vista was not the best version of Windows when it was released. It was roundly criticized for poor performance, and hardware incompatibilities. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is usually Redmond's number one cheerleader. But today he's letting the cat out of the bag saying Vista was, "not executed well." Okay, it's something at least.
This statement was part of a half-hour long speech in which Ballmer discussed how he runs Microsoft. He stressed finding the best employees, and investing time in the right areas. The comments about Vista were part of an answer about how Microsoft innovates. He says that thousands of man-years were wasted because they were trying to do too much they were developing Vista.
Since Ballmer took over the reins of Microsoft, however, there have been a number of major releases. From Windows 7, to Bing, to Office 2010. Sure, Ballmer may always be remembered for running around a stage chanting and sweating, but you can't argue with his results.

Darn but I didnt notice how much Vista...."wasn't executed well" :/ Right now I'm also noticing how Win7 "isn't executed well" either. Maybe one day, MS will release an OS for ADULTS...aka those that can read. If I had wanted an idiotic taskbar tacked on to Win XP...well I would have purchased a MAC. If I had wanted every damn facet of XP in the form of thumbs, and moved where noone would find it.....well I could do that on XP too. When I install an MS OS I spend 6-12 hours UNdoing all MS's 'improvements'. All this for the mere cost of 200-300 dollars. What I'd really like to know is, if those that actually LIKE Win 7...shave yet. Demographics have shown that the age group aimed at by most manufacturers is 18-25 yrs old. My favorite Win 7 "improvement"is the NEED for theGod Mode folder....just what I need, an OS with all the settings hidden by default. Vista IS a joke, Win 7 is soon to be one....maybe Win 8 will actually be an OS that is completely configurable by the end user...ya know....the ppl who buy it.
The "CLOUD" is the biggest mistake this country has made...EVER !

Go ahead, stay with your 10 year old OS, with 512 byte sectors, DirectX 9, non-functional 64 bit, the like.

Best to not feed the trolls... If he wants to use XP until the end of time, let him.
Heck, I'm sure in 2 more OS releases he'll still be going on and on about how XP is the best thing since oxygen, beer and sex, even though he struggles to use new hardware and software. And he'll rant and rave about how everything should just be a service pack to XP, waa, waa, waa.

I am still running two machines on Vista and never had a lick of trouble. I sometimes wish that MS had actually produced some of the tech they promised for Vista but didn't deliver, but that's spilt milk.
Office 2007 still inhales great gobs of donkey gonads, however, on the interface front. But I get paid by the hour, so if it takes longer to do the same jobs because the interface takes more steps to do the same jobs over 2003, I guess it is cash in pocket. Maybe it's the Office team doing an Italian strike on the nation, an intentional work slowdown? Fight the power, guys, fight the power.

wasn't the same said (or close to it) about windows me? It is becoming a norm for Microsoft to force it's end users to be beta testers. Yeah, the final product is nice (with windows me we ended up with xp, and vista turned into windows 7) it just sucks for us to have to actually spend money to fix their problems

That's not a very good analogy. WinME was based on the 9x kernal, not NT. So it wasn't much of a beta test for the future XP. Win2k as a beta test for XP would've been a better comparison.
I personally can't recall any issues with WinME on my laptop from back then. I do remember quite a few improvements, like better usb support than Win98, System Restore, iirc there were also some improvements to the folder/explorer ui as well.

Windows ME was Windows 98 with a dash of Windows 2000 tossed in.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. I know it was two completely different operating systems, but they threw that out there to have a release as they were finishing XP (or so it seems). There was a lot of what was in ME that made it over to XP. System restore is one that comes to mind (which absolutely sucked in ME)..It's be so long and such a horrible memory that I can't remember what else was "carried" over so to speak ;-) Vista had the same feeling as far as I'm concerned. Push something out that just wasn't finished, was broken and didn't need to be released just to have a release because it had been to long..
my 2.1 cents

Number 1 cheerleader for sure. And don't forget the tongue. Number 1 Tongue Waggler as well. He needs to leash that thing during pictures. Actually I'm surprised you guys at Max PC didn't use that tongue photo you all seem to use. All I know about Ballmer is his hilarious iPad review. (you can find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRcTYgEx3mI if you've been living under a rock)
