If you're a sports fan, you can't help but feel sorry for people living in Cleveland who watched in disgust as LeBron James took his talents to South Beach a year ago (and then delight when he choked in the NBA Finals), and haven't witnessed a hometown professional championship since 1964. Bummer. But hey, they still have AVADirect, a boutique system builder located in the outskirts of Cleveland, and while it'll never bring home a sports title, it has won other awards, including our own Kick Ass award just a few months months ago for a custom gaming PC. Perhaps looking to tackle a new challenge, AVADirect and its team of builders have starting putting together compact gaming and small form factor (SFF) systems based on Intel's X79 chipset.
"Each configuration is designed for those that require a large amount of computing power in environments that have little space. Based on the X79 chipset, both configurations will provide all of the same customizations most of our configurators offer, however the case selection has been pre-selected to provide only those that will qualify the system as compact or small form-factor," AVADirect said in a statement.
Not one for fancy titles, AVADirect's "Workstation PC Six-core Core i7 X79 SFF Computer Workstation" is a comparatively pint sized PC shoved inside a Lian Li PC-V345B mini-tower case. Pricing starts at just shy of $1,900 and includes an Intel Core i7 3930K processor, MSI X79MA-GD45 motherboard, 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory, ATI FirePro V3800 graphics card, 1TB SATA 6Gbps hard drive, and 850W power supply.
For gamers, there's the new "Compact Gaming PC Core i7 X79 SLI / CrossFireX Compact Gaming Computer System." This system starts at around $1,850 and includes the same processor, RAM, and hard drive, as well as an ASRock X79 Extreme4-M motherboard, EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti graphics card, DVD burner, 500W power supply, NZXT Vulcan mid-tower case, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
