Auto-Tune the News Cracks Billboard Top 100
It's a big day for the Internet, an Internet meme has successfully invaded the real world. The Auto-Tune the News folks saw their tweaked version of the Lincoln Park Bed Intruder song reach number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 today. This feat was made possible thanks to a 2005 decision by Billboard to include digital downloads in their rankings. Bed Intruder is currently number 35 in iTunes.
Just let that sink in, the Gregory Brothers (the group behind Auto-Tune the News) saw something in the cadence and vocabulary in this news report, and made a hit song out of it. The song is currently only available as a digital download. The Gregory Brothers recently told Wired that they are also working on a pilot with Comedy Central based on Internet culture.
If you haven't heard the song, just check it out. You won't be sorry.

I live in Madison, which is right outside of Huntsville, and I cannot wait for this meme to go away.

This is outrageous. Someone tried to rape this woman, and they made a song about it. WTF? To top it off, they are making fun of them for being uneducated. I am aghast that some people behave in this manner.

First of all, the song isn't about the rape per say. It's about Antoine Dodson and his hilarious reaction on the news to the attempted rape of his sister. If you can't see the comedy in this, then you need to lighten up... a lot.
Second of all, what does it have to do with education? Antoine didn't say anything factually incorrect. He just (hilariously) fearmongered that "they rapin' everybody up in here" probably because he was worked up from the whole incident. The auto-tune the news guys didn't even make fun of the guy. They just put his words to music. AND they are sharing the profits with the Dodson family. And Antoine Dodson is selling t-shirts and all that. So clearly he doesn't feel like he's being made fun of for being "uneducated" like you say.
Third of all, what does it say about the state of our popular music industry when a satirical song like this makes its way to the top 100? I love the auto-tune the news guys and all, but that's just a little sad for music in general.
I think your reaction to this is more objectionable than the whole damn incident. Learn to have a sense of humor.
