AT&T Subscribers to Follow iPhone to Verizon
Unless all the rumors turn out to be hogwash, then perhaps the worst kept secret in Silicon Valley is that Apple's iPhone is headed to Verizon. So then the question is, who cares?
Well, AT&T subscribers, for one. According Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, AT&T runaways will make up the majority of early adopters for the iPhone on Verizon, CNet reports.
Munster reckons the iPhone will head to Verzion in the first half 2011, and if it does, he sees the wireless carrier adding some 2.5 million iPhones all by itself, while at the same time siphoning around 6.5 million iPhone subscribers from AT&T. Should it play out that way, AT&T will see its iPhone sales drop by 30 percent next year alone, while it's conceivable that many more will jump ship once their contracts expire.
In other words, the impending release of the iPhone on Verizon's network is bad news for AT&T, which Consumer Reports readers recently ranked as the worst carrier in the U.S.

I've been with AT&T for about 6 years now and never had an issue with them. I just got the iPhone 3GS in June and even now, I don't notice any dropped calls or any of the other issues people seem to have. I'm not sure how this will impact AT&T in the long run but I do think that Verizon's network will take a huge hit with all these new subscribers and their data. Didn't Verizon just upgrade to 4G recently? So maybe it won't be as bad as I think.

It's high time the iPhone went to another carrier. Personally, I wonder how this is going to fair out for AT&T, as they're about to lose their sole product, which I believe has kept them afloat for years. Who knows, this could help AT&T loosen the burden of having so many iPhone customers on their network. Not to mention that with many [customers] are about to jump ship, this could mean AT&T might lower their price plans down, offer better services, and eventually get a better network in place.

Is it because ATT tried to cheapout the infrastructure or is beacuse ATT was overwealmed by the sole supplier of the iPhone? I bet it was the latter and Verizon will be hammered too.

Before I had an Iphone on ATT I had a Windows phone. That phone had its problems but I never had dropped calls. Since switching to the Iphone, both 3g and now 4 I experience too frequent dropped calls. The Iphone 4 is particularly bad about this and it often seems to relate to the light sensor on the front. Non-Iphones on my plan in the same location at the same time do not experience dropped calls. Just saying . . . . when my contract is up I think I will try the new Windows phone.

Right?! How many times have you heard 'I love my iPhone but AT&T sucks!'? How do they know it's not the iphone that sucks? I don't have a smart phone but I've had AT&T for around 5 years with a few different phones and my service has always been rock solid. Customer support is always very good when I've had to call them as well. I'm a satisfied AT&T customer.
