AT&T Refutes Verizon's Network Coverage Attacks

comment Commentsprint Printemail EmailDeliciousDiggStumbleUponRedditFacebookSlashdot

By now you've probably seen one of Verizon's ads taking shots at AT&T's comparatively dismal 3G network coverage. Even if you didn't, AT&T has, and the wireless carrier has accused Verizon of not telling the whole story and misleading the public.

AT&T contends it's unfair to show 3G coverage maps from the two carriers side by side because it makes it look like AT&T doesn't have service in most areas. The maps only depict 3G zones, ignoring AT&T's existing 2.5G network, which is sufficient for email and other tasks portrayed in the commercials. The bottom line is, the ads are accurate in terms of 3G, but neglect to tell the whole story. Is that misleading?

AT&T thinks so, and as we previously reported, the wireless carrier has dropped a lawsuit on Verizon's lap. How that plays out will be for the courts to decide. In the meantime, expect the ads to keep rolling, especially with Verizon's Droid attracting so much attention.

avatarIf anyone sues, subscribers should sue AT&T

Nothing sucks worse than getting an iPhone and realizing those bastards at the AT&T store lied, and you can't get a 3G signal and everything you do is slow or drops.  I agree... Verizon should do a lighter color but say "Sucks Ass".  If AT&T didn't have the iPhone, they'd be hurting bad.

I have travelled all over this country, and I can say that anything outside of that blue 3G network does suck on the AT&T network... at least that has been my experience.

avatarVerizon is just pissed off

Verizon is just pissed off that they lost out on all the money they could be making off the Iphone, Acccording to some reports i have read apple did go to verizon but they want to control every feature of it. I love my Iphone and have no problems with AT&T's service. On the other hand my wife has verizon and she drops calls in the living room and has to move to another part of the house. If she wants to go on the internet$$$ If she wants to add Rintones$$$$ Music$$$$ Ect. With my Iphone i can make my own ringtones download ANY song i want for $0.00 Add as many games and apps as i want some cost but a lot are free. And there is no verizon logo plastered on it. And i have over  4000 rollover minutes in less than 4 months so no overage charges. EVER. My wife on the other hand has to have her calls forwarded to the land line in the house to save her calling minutes.

avatarAT&T = crybaby

OK, let's try this - add a light color to the AT&T map showing the 2.5G coverage area, and in nice, big, bold lettering, say something like "LIGHTER COLORED AREA = SLOWER THAN 3G".  Wonder how quickly they'd bitch about that?  Just like the current ads, it would be accurate...stating and showing nothing more than what Verizon says it does.

I still fail to see how any reasonably intelligent person can draw the conclusion there's no coverage outside of the blue areas, when it's in nice, readable letters below the map that it shows "AT&T 3G Coverage Area".

Anybody got some cheese to give AT&T?  It'll go great with their whine.
