AT&T to Get Five Android Phones
AT&T finally seems ready to admit that this whole Android thing isn’t just a flash in the pan. The carrier that brought you the iPhone will be launching five Android phones in the first half of 2010. The announcement was a bit short on details, but there were some clues as to which handsets to expect.
AT&T plans to offer a Motorola handset with a “unique form factor”. This can only be the Moto Backflip we told you about recently. This phone is “blessed” with an awkward looking reverse clamshell design and a lack of Google apps (in the prerelease version at least). The announcement also said Dell’s first smartphone would be coming to the network. That clearly means a version of the Mini 3i with US 3G bands.
The remaining phones are to be HTC devices. No details on what these might be. Knowing HTC’s penchant for repackaging the same hardware, these phones could end up being variations of the Hero. We may see some of the phones spied in the leaked roadmap from a few weeks back. Any AT&T customers planning to buy into the Android craze?

I have 4 phones with Sprint and have never had an issue as well. The Palm Pre as my main, HTC Touch Pro, LG Lotus (wifes), and an old sanyo scp8400 that the kids use. I have been with sprint for 8 years and have never used at&t personally. My whole family lives here in central Florida (near Orlando) and my dad (who uses at&t) is chompin at the bits to switch to Sprint when his contract is up because his service is spotty. In most places, especially at the golf coarse, he drops calls or it goes straight to voicemail when I'm talking away or playing on the net. Whats funny is that he will have 2 bars and still it drops out like a lead balloon. Like I said, this is in and around Orlando. What's worse for him is that I pay less for a hell of alot more. I understand that different markets have thier strength and weaknesses but just about everyone I know who is on at&t in this area says that thier service sucks and can get way more for less with Sprint.

I have family that live in Orlando (a lot in Kissimmee) and Miami, all of which say their service is great in those areas. The only comment I may have heard was that certain highways wasn't 3G (EDGE instead) and would switch back and forth, but not enough to deem it bad service or even fair... it's better than excellent.

Would have been funny if pri"s"on bars went horizontal rather than vertical. I actually see Android being within AT&T's world.
I love how people get on AT&T's network for sucking, but have the iPhone on AT&T and have other options. Sorry to say, but you are a stupid consumer. What you're actually saying is that you're willing to accept crappy service for a phone. #loser
I have no issues with AT&T and never have. I love it. Just because some people choose to stay with AT&T that don't have great service (not counting those who had good service, but turned bad after their last phone purchase) for a phone. really doesn't give you the right to speak in this matter. In fact, if you'd leave, I'm sure it would get better.

well im at an interesting dilemma now. i was looking to leave att to get a nice android phone. i tried winmo 6.5 and didn't like it much, i hate apple so i dont want an iphone and im not so positive on palm pre. att works fine for me in san diego, but how will it be when i have to travel the us for work? with my employee discount, prices would be the same for unlimited everything on 3 of 4 major carriers (att, sprint, verizon). so, stick with what i have and wait, or wait a bit less and switch..DAMMIT my blackjack 2 just aint cuttin it no more

So now AT&T customers get the choice between overpriced, smug MP3 player and a poorly-executed Frankenstein of new phone tech? Why oh why did I sign that 2 year contract.

Verizon has more 3G coverage, but AT&T (when you do get 3G) is insanely fast. Just different levels of suck.
I was thinking of switching to Verizon when the new Google Phone was available this spring/summer, but now I'll wait and check out these offerings (ideally I want a slide out KB....but not the Droid). I have AT&T for my work and it's the "preferred" service...so I'll try to stick with it.
Although my work pays my bill, I actually envy the people that can use T-Mobile. I saw their prices and was astounded at how cheap it was for unlimited everything. Any reports on how fast/reliable/available their 3G is?

Hi! We are AT&T! The Fastest 3G network....ahem...when you can find it. But we do have killer edge coverage! Due to our recent problems with coverage in certain cities and not so satisfied customers, we are announcing 5, yes 5! New android phones with google gaga crap to further clog our network to make it the most "annoying network" known to man. Thank you for your business and please buy 2 smartphones so we can charge you out the ass for our service!

for a bit of perspective, my friend wanted me to make sure when they changed their phone # on their iphone all the files and apps were intact, and to set up email on it.
Inside the office with wer have 8 data lines and wifi the iPhone had 0 bars.
The onlytime my instinct has 0 bars is when im inside the elevator, doors closed and moving down (even then it's 2 bars and falling) outside the elevator and anywhere in the entire neighborhood...
6 bars, all the time.
