I know it's important to keep your drivers updated, especially video drivers, but looking at the releases notes, all the fixed issues and enhancements really don't affect me at all. Should I still be overly concerned about making sure I install the latest drivers. I'm still going to, I;m just wondering.

I usually go by the philosophy that I should keep everything updated, within reason. I didn't jump for Vista and I haven't made my Win7 upgrade yet due to budget constraints.

Anyways, I run a 32bit XP system that I built a little over a year ago, with a 4850 made by Sapphire.  I installed this update and the driver and Catalyst Control Center have not run since. I can see my screen just fine but game performance is completely unaffected by the hardware. No anti-aliasing and pretty much nothing else that relies on the Catalyst Control Center to work.

It should have been a red flag when the link for the installation instructions was broken and I had errors upon installing it. I even tried a system restore, nothing.

Looks like I have to completely reinstall everything ATi related. WONDERFUL.

3 hours later... still loads of catalyst control errors and apparently now my hardware is not support by Catalyst...

Any ideas?

So, being that the instructions on the original page for 32bit xp featured a broken link...

It's been my experience as long as there are no problems why update. Some times when you update video drivers you have compatibility issues with old programs. Some things slow down some things get more FPS. I have found that it's better to wait till i need the updated drivers. It saves a lot of download and install time. You know what the old saying is "if it's not broke don't fix it."
