Asus Zenbook to MacBook Air: Let's Dance
Asus this week unveiled its first Ultrabook, the Zenbook. Much to the delight of Intel, the Zenbook starts at a buck shy of $1,000, but with twice the storage of Apple's $999 MacBook Air and with a faster processor to boot. The Zenbook is as much about style and portability as it is function. It measures 0.11 inches thin at the front and 0.67 inches at the rear, and sports a silver exterior panel with a concentric circle design that refracts a halo of light, Asus says.
There are five different models to choose from: UX21E-DH52 (11.6 inches), UX21E-DH71 (11.6 inches), UX31E-DH52 (13.3 inches), UX31E-DH53 (13.3 inches), and UX31E-DH72 (13.3 inches). The main difference between the $999 UX21E-DH52 and $1,199 UX21E-DH71 is the former features an Intel Core i5 2467M processor and the latter brings a Core i7 2677M processor to the Ultrabook party. Otherwise both 11-inch models share the same features:
- 1366x766 resolution
- 4GB DDR3 memory
- 128GB SATA 3Gbps SSD
- 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi; Bluetooth v4.0
- 0.3MP webcam
- 1 x USB 2.0; 1 x USB 3.0; audio/mic; micro HDMI; mini VGA
- Windows home Premium 64-bit
- 2.43 pounds
Both the $1,099 UX31E-DH52 and $1,349 UX31E-DH53 come equipped with an Intel Core i5 2557M processor, while the $1,449 has a Core i7 2677M processor. Storage is doubled to 256GB in all three of the 13.3-inch models, the screen resolution is bumped up to 1600x900, and each one weighs 2.86 pounds.

That's a pretty standard resolution for 10-11 inch displays, the 13 inch is 1600 x 900.

As a Mac-user, Asus is one of the few names in PCs that I personally respect.
Suggestion: test one of these out when it comes out. Tell us how the battery compares to that of the MBA. I believe that many buy Apple for efficiency, not because they're vain little Y-Gen'rs who think they look cool with the products they own. The MBA and its new wannabes are not meant to be powerhouses or desktop replacements. People like myself (or "sheep," as they're referred to here by anonymous trolls whose parents bought them a cheap computer) don''t care about the geek-specs on the CPU when A. the one in the current MBAs is more than sufficient/efficient and B. we have desktops that accomplish CPU intensive tasks.
OSes are just a matter of personal preference. If you really want to fight that Apple machine and evangelize the ten percent try this: do head-to-head comparisons between the Apple products and those that are like them on the Windows-side. I know this site is dedicated to power-users and system-builders. But if you review products like this you have to know that their purpose and appeal is different than just a small bump in CPU performance. Furthermore, no one will care if a Samsung Tab has more computing power than an iPad when the iPad is still going five hours after the Tab ran out of battery life.

.3 MP for a webcam? And a crappy single port for USB 2.0 and 3.0 each? A netbook could do better. Especially at prices of $1000+....
