Asus Still Enamored with Netbooks
Park the hearse, cancel the appointment with the funeral director, and don't print the obituary, because netbooks are here to stay. Or at least that's the case if Asus has any say in the matter (and the company does).
Asus will continue to blitz the netbook market in 2011 by launching three to four brand new Eee PC models, which are in addition to upgraded versions of existing models already on the market, DigiTimes reports. By the end of the year, Asus plans to have shipped six million netbooks, claiming a 20 percent share of the market.
Eee PC business GM Samson Hu indicated that it's tough to predict what impact tablet PCs will have on netbooks sales, but that won't deter Asus from shipping as many netbooks as it can. Given the slow roll out of tablets in general, that's probably a safe bet.

I just got a 1215N (about 5 days before fusion...of course), and it rocks! It's plenty fast enough for day-to-day tasks (although obviously not real gaming, that's what my 460 SLI desktop is for), while weighing under 5 lbs and having over 5 hrs of battery life. Overall, it is the perfect school computer, and I got it all for less than most iPads. Honestly, when you can get a dual core and dedicated graphics (ok, maybe pushing it a bit, but still) for less money, why get a tablet?
I have to say, though, that I think the saddest thing about netbooks fading away is that they take all of the mainstream possibility of Asus laptops as a whole with them. Asus is, in my opinion, the best laptop maker available, outside of some boutiques.

does this include new AMD Fusion laptops? Will there be a final ruling on what constitutes a netbook, or must this go all all the way to the supreme court?
Waiting for the 12" 1215B Fusion!
