Apple's App Store Now Crammed with More than 100,000 Apps

Apple has announced that its App Store now holds over 100,000 apps, highlighting the company's dominance over the also-rans. That includes Google's Android Market and its comparatively paltry 10,000 apps, although Android has had less time on the market.
"The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating."
What makes the feat even more impressive is that Apple was able to accumulate all these apps in just 16 months. There's definitely something to be said for being the first major player.
Of course, quality is just as important as quantity, and here too Apple has been making strides to improve its App Store. Features like Genius recommendations, App Store Essentials, and sub-category listings are all efforts to give quality apps their due.

I think MS should use apples iphone marketing scheme against them. I want to see a windows commercial that touts the number of windows "apps" compared to mac os apps :D Just to poke fun at them, but then again, I'm sure apple would throw a temper tantrum and try to sue because they have 5 more apps than microsoft stated in the commercial, much like they did with their laptop hunter ads.

Why are we once again talking about the Iphone??? For one, it's a cell phone. Yeah it's "smart" & yeah we know how many people, including Will Smith have a love affair with it. But it's not a PC. For two, It's an Apple product. NOT A PC!. Does that mean I would be ok with Android news? No, (even though I use a G1) I would not unless it's for the OS going to a PC. Would I be ok with Win Mobile news? Nope, unless they can port it to a PC.
I'm basically wondering when this site turned into Wired or a technology site. I mean it's all great information, but if you guys on the writing staff don't have any PC news or articles to write about, why not write some new guides or something.

Read editor-in-chief Will Smith's article in the October 2009 magazine. He touched on this issue. Cheers.
Yes I read it, that's what prompted my comments

I know, that's why I commented like I did. I mean if they wanna change the format of the magazine/site to Maximum Computer or Maximum Technology, sure throw in the Iphone crap. But until they do, this is Maximum PC...I don't like thier efforts being wasted on the Apple Gateway Drug.

Making 10,000 useful? Hardly. I'd say maybe around 200 are decent.
