Apple Wants To Be Your Valentine, Will Launch iPad 3 in February, Analyst Says

If you're the type of person who has to have every Apple product that comes out and fancy yourself a gambling type, now might be a good time to put your iPad 2 up for sale on eBay or Craigslist. It will never be worth more than it is right now, it's still early enough to cash in on the holiday shoppers, and if you trust Citi analyst Richard Gardner, the iPad 3 will launch in February.

Gardner stated in a research note to investors that he's hearing from "several sources" the next iPad will launch a month ahead of when iPad 2's one year anniversary, and there are "no significant hurdles remaining" that would prevent this from happening, Business Insider reports.

He also says the iPad 3 will come to town toting a much improved display with double the resolution of current generation iPad devices, which is something that has been rumored for quite some time now. However, reported problems with the iPad 3's retina display had cast doubt on that being the case, or that the iPad 3 would launch on schedule (around March 2012).

Apple might be feeling the pressure to release the iPad 3 sooner rather than later. Amazon just made a big splash in the tablet market with its recently released Kindle Fire device, a lower cost tablet ($199) that isn't an iPad killer, but could put a dent in iPad sales. Barnes & Noble is also making a run at the tablet market with its $249 Nook Tablet. On the higher end of the slate spectrum, there's the Eee Pad Transformer Prime from Asus, which is largely regarded as the best Android tablet to date.
