FFS, since when is a tablet a PC? Don't start with the dictionary definition of a "PC" because you know what I'm really talking about. Anything that has iOS or Android is a mobile device, not a PC.

I would argue that most tablets are not computers- they are really the same as a smartphone but with a larger screen.

unless the tablet can run programs like a desktop and not be limited to minor apps that have limited use then they cannot be called a desktop or laptop computer.

heck even my old netbook can run a full version of excel and word

everything from the architecture to the OS used in tablets is phone based.

If we're going to include iPads, which aren't PCs, we should also include HP calculators and then see who comes out on top.

I can access and do work on my PC with my iPad. Can the same be said about those calculators? But like it or not tablets are PCs, they may have a different OS, but that is about it.

I can access and do work on my PC with my Droid 1. Doesn't mean its a PC.

iPads are not a Personal Computer, they are a tablet computer. There is nothing else to be said.

Maybe this is true with sales. But who says a "analysis" of numbers cant be edited to show favor. I'm sure some firm out there that shows these numbers will come out tomorrow saying that twitter has sold more apps than anyone.

It's been proven numbers can be forged. Remember that "analysis" Google had that said Chrome was the most secure web browser. I don't believe any of these reports, who hired them to do this analysis.

if we count calculators as PCs, maybe Texas Instruments would become the top PC seller of the year

In my eyes, if I can't take my Windows/Linux install disk or bootable flash drive and freshly install the OS, it's not a PC.

The iPad is NOT a PC.

I can hardly call Macs PCs, considering that you can't simply install Windows without fancy software. Can you even install Linux on a Mac?

As far as Windows 8 tablets go, it seems like they won't have an option for installing other OSes. So I won't even consider those PCs.

But seriously, these analysts need to stop their BS.

"I can hardly call Macs PCs, considering that you can't simply install Windows without fancy software. Can you even install Linux on a Mac?"

A Mac is still a "PC". It has the same types of hardware and components, just proprietary with a different OS.

that's a misconception. you can install windows on a mac natively with no apple software whatsoever. Boot Camp just allows you do dual boot easily. and you can install any linux distro.

macs and pcs are both just pcs. apple is basically a boutique vendor.

x86 windows tabs will allow you to install your own OS. Also, I wouldn't really call Boot camp "fancy software" considering that it's insanely easy to use.

ARM windows tabs are completely blocked off, and anyone who tries to call one of those a PC should be slapped.

I don't personally consider a tablet a PC, but we're all just going to have to get used to them being classified as such when factored into sales-figures. It looks like they are all factoring tablets into their sales reports...Lenovo included.

I'm thinking about getting an iPad...because all the other tablets I've tried blew huge cawk'n'ballz and I'm not waiting around to see if Windows 8 is going to "bring it." I hope they do, but I'm not holding my breath.

Seeing as how the difference between an iPad and an iPhone is the size of the screen, but the difference between an iPad and a Mac is hardware and OS, then clearly iPhones must be included in this tally.

-.-

No, the iPad isn't a PC. If the iPad's a PC, then the iPhone is a PC. And if the iPhone is a PC, then every mobile handset is a PC.

THANK YOU!

I hate when people sensationalize data that is very mundane and meaningless when you examine it a little more. I think Maximum PC had an article on here just last week on how Samsung shipped more handsets in 2011 than Apple.. meaning that this non-headline would be even less of a headline, seeing as how the iPhone is not the hottest selling smartphone anymore.

I'm tired of all the hype and BS. Give me the numbers and I will draw my own conclusions on them.
