Apple Questions Android Market Share Survey
News broke yesterday that Android market share had passed that of the iPhone in the US. The numbers were based on an NPD group survey. NPD Group is usually highly regarded for their market analysis, but Apple is taking issue with the value of the report's findings. “This is a very limited report on 150,000 US consumers responding to an online survey..." said Apple in a statement.
Apple goes on to point to their astounding growth numbers. Others have made note that Verizon Wireless is pushing Android especially hard these days, offering buy one, get one deals. Still, no one is actually disputing the numbers for smartphone usage in the US itself.
Apple is confident in the quality of their products, as well they should be. iPhone sales grew 131% in the last quarter. Even if Android's growth is greatly helped by special promotions, we're sure Google will take the market share any way they can get it.

Apple has turned into the Microsoft of the cellphone world. They have a market dominance and now they want to do everything they can to keep it, whether it'd be suing the hell out of companies for anything remotely looking like their design, or through silly PR campaigns.
I hope the EU starts getting on their ass about anti-trust.

If you read the survey, RIM has the most market share followed by Android then Apple.

Each cell phone carrier has at least one Android phone. Even At&t has one. Considering that Android is a phone os, of course they will sell more. This isn't too surprising. Is Apple is now whining that their phone is locked to one haredware and one carrier? Has people finally realize they no longer want to be tied down to a subpar phone such as the iPhone? I Wonder how long will this iCrap fad will continue?

All Apple have to do is release a version of the iPhone on the Verizon network. That is all they have to do. See how their market share rise then.

It's too bad the survey wasn't Flash based. Then Apple could complain they are misrepresented because iPhone users couldn't load the website.

OOhhh booo!hoo!
They are like the kid on the play ground saying "It's my ball, I'm going home"
The Android Army will prevail. If not now, then in a year from now so Apple better get used to looking up at Android.

Engadget had the same report and they mentioned some interesting facts this article left out. Apple is taking issue with the amount report by a Marketing survey that tracks cell phones. So Apple of course points to all the iPhones and iPod Touches sold and says their number is bigger.
Yeah, you're not bright if you buy what Apple is trying to sell here.
Of COURSE you sold more Apple. Grats! All those iPod Touches out there are clearly hooked up to AT&T. You guys win. What were we thinking? Clearly, those survey guys were wrong for just tracking phones. We need to add all those PMPs in there too. Wow. Thanks Steve.
If you have to ask, you failed.

Apple should just accept it and move on. They're just pissed off that they don't have the market share they're used to.
I was surprised even 500,000 iFads were sold, much less 1 million
