Seems like there are some definite antitrust overtones here. Any experts want to comment?

Yea, but Apple seems to be able to get away with it.

Hasn't Intel settled with AMD over the same kind of thing? Several years ago, Intel was sued by AMD for bullying various companies like Dell and HP into using/promoting Intel products over AMD products. While I don't remember the specifics of the Intel/AMD legal issues, it sure sounds a lot like what Apple is pulling here...

At the rate Steve Jobs is trying to force companies to do business his way and remove others from the market place, it won't be long before Apple gets the fine hammer brought down on them HARD. I can't wait to see it either!!

Apple: Waaaaah Waaaaaah! People finding ways around our Bullshit $1.29 per song... Waaah waaaaaaah! Record labels you have to do something to perserve our monopoly before the Feds come in and clean our dishonest, backstabbing, uncaring about our customers tactics! Waaaah Waaah! Turtlenecks just increased in price and we need more money to afford them. WAAAAAAAH

I don't own any Apple products, and I never will. I use Amazon because I won't buy anything with DRM and my mp3 player is NOT an iPod.
The only reason I'm entering the various "win an Ipad" contests that I see is so that, if I win, I can turn around and sell it so I can buy that lift kit for my Jeep I've been coveting.
I'd buy a game or two...but there aren't many companies worth giving my business to these days.

Didn't Intel get in trouble over in Europe for practices such as these?

I've bought quite a few $2 albums on sale from Amazon, but have yet to buy anything from iTunes. Not because of some Higher Cause, but because Apple simply doesn't know what a SALE is. Not that that's surprising, coming from a purveyor of overpriced hardware.

i'm pretty sure that capitalizm isn't supposed to be completely fair, if Amazon want's to offer music a day before it comes out, let them!
if intel did something like this against AMD i'm sure somebody would be screaming at the top of their lungs. But noooo, it's apple, the friendly company! (sarcasm)

Love the picture. Describes Apple to a T.
I can't wait until Amazon opens up their MP3 store in Canada... I want to buy music online, and my only choice is iTunes. And I refuse to use it!

I think Apple has officially learned out to out-Microsoft Microsoft. They're acting like sore losers when they haven't even lost!

I can attest to one part of this post. I buy the occasional album from Amazon, but I guarantee you this: I will never, ever, buy a single Apple product and that includes a single track from iTunes.

This article has inspired me to go buy some more albums from amazon. I'm so sick of Apple's tactics. I'll never buy an ipod and I'll never use itunes.

Ok, first off, we know there is some contract between between the music labels and Amazon. A contract that isn't disclosed outside of the 2 parties - of which Apple doesn't know the conditions of. I'm sure the music labels are getting something out of the deal with Amazon...no doubt about it. So why is Apple feeling betrayed? Amazon hammered out a deal with the music labels...that's all there is to it, and both parties signed the contract because they're both content with it. If Apple wants in it too, then instead of spending money on lawyers to sue other manufacturers over their multi-touch patents, how about spend that money on trying to pursue deals with the music industry? Take Wal-Mart - they're able to sell things cheaper than their competitors because they get to buy it from the manufacturers for cheaper because I don't know - maybe Wal-Mart is buying them in bigger bulk? And Target or Kmart isn't going after the manufacturers because they've felt betrayed. I used to be an Apple fanboy, but as of lately, I've been very pissed off. I recently sold both of my iPods in exchange for a ZuneHD and I haven't turned on my MacOSX since Sept.
