Apple Now Accepting iPad Pre-orders
Short and to the point, Apple this morning has started accepting pre-orders for its upcoming iPad tablet, which will be available on April 3 (Wi-Fi) and late April (Wi-Fi + 3G).
As a reminder, pricing breaks down as follows:
- 16GB Wi-Fi: $499
- 32GB Wi-Fi: $599
- 64GB Wi-Fi: $699
- 16GB Wi-Fi + 3G: $629
- 32GB Wi-Fi + 3G: $729
- 64GB Wi-Fi + 3G: $829
Shipping is free, and Apple's wording makes it sound like the tablet will be delivered on the day of its release (or April 5 if Saturday delivery isn't available in your area). If you don't want to chance it, you can also opt to reserve a copy at your local Apple Retail Store and pick it up between 9AM and 3PM.
So, who's in for one (or two, which is the pre-order limit)?

I feel bad for the shmuck who buys the 64gb version with 3G. Only to look like a failure amongst his peers that have brand new shiny Couriers.

You poor soul. Well, I hope you enjoy your iPod Touch with Elephantitus, and the fact that you shelled out a godaweful amount of money for an overpriced, and underperforming POS.

There was an MaximumPC article a few days ago stating that Apple just made IBooks available to the Ipad market as a download. So why would Apple market a product as an ebook reader but make you have to download the software to read books. It seems to me the necessary software would be a built in part of the OS. I think the Ipad is doomed to only be used by dumbasses that don't know any better.

To push updates to it without releasing an OS update, dumbass.
Some of the comments here are worse than youtube.

I have always wanted to pay a nazi 500$ to look cool. Not only would I look cool, I will feel so much more important when I whip it out in my local Mcdonalds that has WiFi. Nothing like eating some apple snacks while playing with an apple Ipad....so cool....i just hope I won't get it all sticky. Remember little apple fritters, Steve Handjobs says buy an Ipad and use the fastest 3G network for instant conectivity. So you better do it or else.

Does anyone here know how GSM works? or what are GSM "bands"?
the 3G iPad supports the following:
- UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
- GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
AT&T apparently uses 850 and 1900 3G bands
T-mobile is apparently 1700/2100MHz
2100MHz is widely used world wide (that's what we are using in Saudi Arabia) so the iPad will work with T-Mobile.
It is unlocked so no need to jailbreak just to unlock.
You will need to cut a SIM card though, buy a scissor.

WiFi, only if you connect to an open network. 3G no, you'll be stuck on AT&T. So you may not get internet at all!

Give it a month and someone is bound to jail break the 3G so you can goto T-Mobile or what have you.
I want a netbook that converts into a touch screen equiped tablet. That is 100% better. I think Toshiba actually has a product if memory serves me right.

The 3G networks of ATT and Tmobile are incompatible, so the best you would get would be edge.

What about iPhone (l)users that are stuck on AT&T. I though that they are (supposed to be) on the 3G network (when it works from what I hear).

Well that sucks.. Jeesh I guess that leaves me completely out of the race then. I won't even consider getting one of these to tear apart.
I wonder if it's possible to build an Android Rom that is compatible with the hardware and replace it with the Apple Ipad Rom..

My wife was excited when she heard the new iPad was ready for pre-order. She wanted to try something new. But then I had to explain to her it was Apple's new portable device and not something to replace 'Maxi'.

Sorry guys, but I have to say it.
Who cares?
There's no pen, so I really don't think it will ever have any tablet functionality.
It's just a fat iPod Touch with ereader capability. Oh wait, iPod Touch has that too.
