I have 2 comments to make. Firstly, i don't really know what to believe with all of this as I wouldn't put it past Apple, given how big they really are, but also I wouldn't doubt the lengths some will go to tarnish the name of said corporation.

My  second comment may be a bit more on the outside, but I find it amazing how Apple has turned into the new Microsoft.

Everyone loves to pick on the big dog. When Microsoft were basically dominating the O/S market, and still are right now, everyone had something bad to say about them and whenever something bad happened in the PC world, it was their fault.

Now that Apple has gained alot of ground and popularity, not so much in the O/S market, but technology market in general, the tide has turned and everyone loves to see these guys slip up.

I'm more of a PC person myself, I admit it, and until Apple can produce a viable computer that can operate in the business world on it's own 2 feet without the help of VMWare or Parallels, Microsoft will be the top choice. That said things are changing rapidly and it won't be too long and this may be true and when this happens, Apple will become the new moving target in a virus writing, hackers world and suddenly you'll see that Apple's idea of security is an illusion.

Is also that Apple seems to be the playground bully as of late. Sicking their team of lawyers on anyone that looks at the company wrong. Sueing everyone and everything in their path as well, and releasing the same crap year after year with marginal updates and a shiny new exterior (look at how much hype there is over a white iPhone.).

They've regularily engaged in poor marketing platforms and smear campains against their competition, spouting off old, out of date, and fake information as truth and fact, and their followers eat it up and regurgitate it as fact again. Heck, watch the documentary on Apple some time and see how obsessed a lot of people are with Apple.

Instead of taking things in stride and trying to be the good guy, they've become the evil company, and honestly, its time for them to eat some humble pie.

Am I the only one who was most interested in the fact that they offered only $300? That's the same price as a new iPhone 4! A prototype is gonna be worth a whole lot more than that. Anyway, as much as I'd love it to be true, I don't believe it.

r6srider

Sounds like a bunch of idiots on both sides.  First of all when do cops come to a persons house looking for a lost phone? Never (unless it would contain evadence for something important mabey), because most cops have better things to do than look for your stolen crap. Have the police every hunted down your phone (or anybody you know of) when it got lost? No! Thats because the owner will have it disconnected by the provider and get a new phone.  Then to let them into your house without questioning their motives, or showing any proof of a court approved search warrent makes the guy that much dumber.  And the morons at asshole...i mean apple should know better, I believe imitating an officer is a federal offense, hence the year in jail thing. Regardless that one of them used to be an officer, the key word is USED toI guess some people believe anything, hey I'm a Nigerian prince and need to transfer some money.......

avatar

Caboose

"First of all when do cops come to a persons house looking for a lost phone?" Apple is the kind of company that will get the police involved to stop someone from saying slanderous things about them. Getting them involved find a lost phone isn't that far fetched.

avatar

tornato7

One year in jail? That's worse than breaking and entering. It should be 20 or something. Not to mention they would be armed if they wanted to look like police officers.

What was a prototype doing outside of the R&D lab?

Sounds like a bunch of bullshit. I'm sure your commenters will eat this up though.

avatar

Mastro Antonio

What's the matter? You can't handle your favorite facist company slipping up?

avatar

Gezzer

Sounds to me like an ex cop had a few buddies give him a hand, so the SFPD didn't know. Then someone said "eh actually we did help out" so the SFPD did.

Either that or ever cop will be "issued" a no cost tablet to help their investigations because Apple want's to support them.

Here's one of the biggest ones right here. Hi again, Mr. Bold.

Try getting news (I use that term loosely) from other sources than your favorite Winblows-biased computer site.

http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/09/02/7578620-sfpd-says-it-helped-apple-in-iphone-hunt-says-sf-weekly

This is exactly what I was talking about. You're exactly the type of idi...I mean person...who would buy anything these clowns pass on to you about a certain "fascist company."

Read the words in that link very carefully, sir. That way you won't have to click on it and get some shit messing up your stupid registry that you couldn't fix.

avatar

albe23

First, your article was released a mere 6 hours ago (0100 currently).  Whereas the MPC article was released at 1428 which was after the first SF-Weekly articles were released (1048) and before any updates came from SFPD representatives.  Also, if the SF-Weekly, CNET, MSNBC, and other news outlets posted pretty much the same articles does that make their readers idiots as you claim?  Rather it shows the fallacy in your thin argument.  Further, using an article that was released over 8 hours later to justify your rant is nothing more than a severe reaction to your hurt iFeelings.  Lastly, please remove your poor attitude and name calling from our "biased computer site."

avatar

Engelsstaub

"The fallacy in my thin argument." What argument do you imagine? I said I thought it sounded like bullshit and it apparently turned out to be. No argument there.

Also, if the SF-Weekly, CNET, MSNBC, and other news outlets posted pretty much the same articles does that make their readers idiots as you claim? (Jesus Christ, I had to actually retype that sentence.)

No, what makes many here idiots is  A. that we see headlines like this all of the time from a tech-site with an anti-Apple bias. ...but what we never see are the updates or any follow-through when it turns out to be bullshit. This is a site/magazine By the Trolls For the Trolls. (So don't get all ass-hurt when you get another that wants to play it from the other side.) And B. most will keep commenting on it without doing that research because any bad thing attributed to the Glowing Fruit is fun and acceptable. To hell with truth.

Sorry for the name-calling. I didn't mean to dismiss as "iFeelings" the thoughts of a person who owns and likes both PCs and Macs  ...oh wait, that was you. Nevermind.

avatar

whiskeymcclinton

There's only one Troll here I see. If you hate this site so much, why are you here reading and posting?

The update does clear up that the SFPD aided a large corporation in searching a person's home without a warrant. Great, at least it wasn't impersonating an officer. I still think it's a little scary that this happened.

It is no secret that Apple puts a lot of effort into keeping their products under wraps until they go on sale. This is not the first time they have trampled on an individual's rights to do so.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Oh, you didn't see the comment that followed my original one?? The word troll to you people is always going to mean someone you don't agree with. My original comment was an opinion that turned out to be 100% correct. So keep the comments coming and don't think of yourselves as trolls. Most people who comment here can't debate anything with people who won't congratulate them constantly for being a computer user who exclusively uses Windows.

Apple does put a lot of effort into secrecy regarding their pre-released products. They are a huge/profitable  corp. (like many others) trying to protect their portfolio. I didn't comprehend your last sentence. What "right to do so" is being trampled on by Apple? I see cops overs-stepping their authority. (That's not unusual in the States, is it?)

"The update does clear up that the SFPD aided a large corporation in searching a person's home without a warrant." (Emphasis mine.) Do you understand who's responsibility it is to obtain warrants and to conduct lawful search and seizure?? Do you want so badly for Apple to be that fascist evil corporation that, even when faced by the facts of who's wrondoing it is, you think to apply the responsibility of proper law enforcement to the people who called the cops to protect their rights???

I'm here reading and posting because I can. My initial response was two sentences. Sorry you guys (again) can't handle it.

avatar

MrBlueCheese

Stop the fighting (not just you Engel, the other guy as well)

Can we be civil for a sec?

I'm a hardware guy, and as any hardware guy would ask, is this:

What is an "prototype iPhone 5" being used outside of the lab? Is it for testing purposes?

Why is the police say (at least initially) they we're aiding in Apple, then later deny it?

Why is Apple (allegately) being so agressive in investigating it?

I say something is going on here, and the pieces aren't falling into place.

avatar

Engelsstaub

Perhaps something is going on. IDK. I don't believe Apple is perfect. They are out to make big bucks like everyone else.

I just don't believe any company like Apple is stupid enough to impersonate police officers. It seems, with a bit more prying, they weren't.

I do notice now that this site isn't the only one running this incredible headline...at least one Mac site is too. My fault for calling Max PC (this time. I've gotten so used to it that I see I've gotten sloppy.)

I just wish we wouldn't all be so gullible and unwilling to look into something just because of who it's about.

It seems weird that every time MPC publishes something negative on Apple, you come in and call bull. If it turns out you are right, you rag on MPC for publishing the news story (like every other tech new vendor). If it turns out you are wrong, you continue to call bull until no one cares anymore.

But if MPC publishes something positive about Apple, you never comment. Or the few times you do, it's to mention how it's nice that MPC has finally published an article that isn't "trolling" Apple for the first time.

Now to me, this looks like a pretty biased opinion; but, as you have claimed, you own non-Apple devices too, so how could you be bias?

But hey, if you feel MPC is merely a den of "trolls" (which really doesn't make sense; trolls, by definition, disrupt a website/service, since MPC, as you put it, hates Apple, then all the people here you say hate Apple are normal members and your Apple love would be considered the trolling), why bother coming here? There are plenty of other tech sites. If you are imagining yourself on some sort of one man crusade against these "trolls" I am sad to inform you that you will accomplish nothing and that the more you post along these lines, the less anyone respect’s what you have to say, regardless of its real value.

So my advice,

-Leave MPC for a site you feel is less "trollish". You gave it your best shot, Jobs-God will forgive you for not being able to convert the heathens, we were warned. That's the best you can do.

or

- Try to find a way to better cover up the "Hi, I'm a Apple fanboy." message in your posts so people will not immediately lose all respect for you, as they do with all fanboys.

or

- Don't read or comment on anything MPC posts about Apple. Pretend MPC never publishes Apple articles and read MPC only for everything else. When you want Apple news, use MacLife instead.

Feel free to respond to me in a passive agressive manner, just know I will probably ignore you for trolling our Apple trolling site.

Engelsstaub

The only thing that seems weird to me is that you feel this constant need to continue engaging me even after I let you get the last word in and be right. "Don't mean to interrupt a conversation between friends..." Remember that? Way to chime in on a dead story four days later...with nothing to contribute no less. I at least corrected and updated it (as Max PC will not.)

Your contribution is following me around on the 'net trying to continue an argument (you already lost..) When I let you have the last word, you butt right into another exchange to keep it up. Again. I definitively showed you just one of many examples of that "bias" you kept asking me to provide, didn't I? So you lost your super-important 'net argument on your own terms, ass is still hurting apparently, and now you have to follow me around baiting on old comments and stories.

I'll be an Apple fanboi for owning some Apple products. I've made no attempt to disguise liking them, have I? I guess I'll be an Alienware fanboi too (same logic. I'll bet my PCs poop all over yours and I like Win7 a lot so I guess I worship the Gates-God too or something. Shit...that's polytheism.) I'll also be a Zune fanboi since I own a Zune HD as well as an iPod Touch. Volkswagen fanboi. You know; driving the VWs and such. Ducati fanboi...yeah I know: Harley's look and sound a lot tougher. I guess I just don't use my products to deludedly define myself to others. My worth is not determined by product choices. Maybe to internet-assholes like you and some editors here, but not to my family or anyone who really matters to me and my Really-Real World.

And I didn't solicit your advice, kid. GTF off the internet and do your English homework. (How could I be bias...LMAO. "But if MPC publishes something positive about Apple, you never comment. Or the few times you do..." What point, pray tell, did you wish to convey here?! ...you do know you're an idiot. You just tell yourself you're not even when I confront you with the evidence again and again.)

I don't require your "internet-respect." Keep following me around with your baiting and non-contributions to stories. Get back here and "be right" and don't ever attempt to engage with me again. You're a joke and a waste of my time it took to type this.

avatar

TerribleToaster

Man this is (sadistically, or would it masochistically in this case?) fun. It's a little sad to see a person so in denial, but the way he just goes on these rants littered with petty insults and then concludes it all by saying that the whole thing is a waste of time and that we aren't worth the effort he spent typing it (déjà vu). And yet, he always comes back (needs that last word, ya know) with another post that is also a waste of time and not worth his effort, which I can only see as meaning you are a very free and very bored person (my condolences) since you have nothing better to do than waste time and effort. Repeatedly.

See this was my point, you say that nothing MPC publishes or anything other people post here matters to you, so I'm asking why you feel a need to respond every time? If it doesn’t matter you won't be posting.

Regardless though, I look forward to more of your passive aggressive responses.

Lovingly yours,

The 7 year old retarded stalker (whom apparently you feel threatened enough by to respond to)

P.S. How do you have any self-respect after verbally attacking a barely literate/mentally retarded child who has severe psychological problems?

I wouldn't doubt that this actually happened.  Corporate fascism at it's finest.  People still think that the governement runs and controls westernized countries.  Corporate fascists, Wall Street bankers, and the most powerfully rich run our nations, make the rules and ultimatelty define our Constitutions.  "We the people" have sold out a long time ago.

avatar

twister753

And that is the reason I love westernized countries.

Oh no, another protype got leaked and stolen ooh noo... What will we do now? /sarcasm I seriously doubt this was on accident, this has happened so many times you'd think the person doing the leak would be fired or arrested. Moving on.
