Apple Boots Wi-Fi Detector Apps From App Store
It looks as though Apple is bringing down the ban hammer on more than just the risqué apps. All so-called “Wi-Fi detector apps” have disappeared from the App Store. Apple claims these apps were taking advantage of a private framework; this was news to the developers of such apps. One developer said of the incident, “We received a very unfortunate email today from Apple stating that WiFi Where has been removed from sale on the App Store for using private frameworks to access wireless information.”
The ban only seems to apply to apps that actively scan nearby wireless signals. These apps can be useful in identifying wireless settings, and finding less crowded Wi-Fi channels. Those that use GPS information to compare with a list of known hotspots were not removed. This appears to be yet another example of Apple cleaning up the Apps Store by more strictly enforcing their often vague rules. Certainly Apple can do as they please in their store, but it still means developers have wasted their time creating an app that cannot be distributed.

Madam President and Members of the mbt sandals General Assembly: When Secretary General Hammarskjold’s invitation to address this General Assembly reached me in Bermuda, I was just beginning a series of conferences with the Prime Ministers and mbt discount Foreign Ministers of Great Britain and of France. This is one of the main reasons I never have and never will own an Apple product of any genre. Their heavy handed gestapo tactics when it comes to anything non-Apple is right up there with DRM on my list of crap for which I have no use.

There just has to be a consortium of evicted app developers with a lawsuit brewing right now. That's probably the only thing that will get Apple to actually publish much clearer guidelines for what is 'holy and clean' enough for their asinine store.

Hey Apple, how about telling developers which private frameworks they shouldn't be using? If you're referring to the networks it's scanning as private, any unsecured signal being broadcast should be considered public domain...

I feel sorry for apple because they are just hurting their business i mean the iphone does have a huge amount of apps but sometimes an app can lead someone to buying one phone over another sigh Apple you seriously screwed up now more developers are going to start moving towards the android and the new microsoft phone that will be comming out. And does anyone feel like this has happened in the past with like their first computer then microsoft came out and killed their market. This time I bet it will be google though. Anyone agree?

You know what until Apple straightens out it's bullshit I'm not purchasing another one of it's entertainment or communications devices again. My wife has ATandT and we were going to switch over to a family plan with ATT so I could get an Iphone but not now. I'll stick with the Google Android phones,. I'm looking at getting another Android phone but with a 1ghz SnapDragon processor.

Android does everything the ipod does and it isn't run by a group of monkeys randomly picking apps to be banned.
