Apple has always been a "my way or the highway" type of company, but its recently declared war on "sexy apps" in the application store has been making developers rather nervous. The most frustrating part for developers that had their applications pulled wasn't just that their lively hood was in jeopardy, but it was the simple fact that they had no idea what Apple considered as "adult". This is a question App Store developer Jon Atherton has addressed on his blog, and the list of reasons why his Wobble application has been pulled is pretty draconian.
1. No images of women in bikinis (Ice skating tights are not OK either)
2. No images of men in bikinis! (I didn't ask about Ice Skating tights for men)
3. No skin (he seriously said this) (I asked if a Burqa was OK, and the Apple guy got angry)
4. No silhouettes that indicate that Wobble can be used for wobbling boobs (yes - I am serious, we have to remove the silhouette on the menu screen)
5. No sexual connotations or innuendo: boobs, babes, booty, sex - all banned
6. Nothing that can be sexually arousing!! (I doubt many people could get aroused with the pic above but those puritanical guys at Apple must get off on pretty mundane things to find Wobble "overtly sexual!)
7. No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content (not sure how Playboy is still in the store, but ...)
Regardless of whether or not you think this is a positive move by Apple, its clearly unfair to developers to constantly keep pulling the rug out from under them, most of the time without any warning. What do you think?

I like what apple is doing. It's bringing taste and class to the mobile phone. If you think about it, anything that is mobile has the potential to be seen in public. Who would be ok with a guy looking at an explicit magazine on a bus? Not me. It's similar to drinking in public. Irresponsible.

Supposedly, the iphone is the #1 smartphone, but I just don't get it. The phone itself seems big and ugly. If that's not enough, the deal breaker for me is the carrier: At&T. I haven't owned an apple product since my 1988 computer and dot-matirix Imagewriter.

Gosh, if Microshaft got half of the nitpicking abuse and vindictiveness that Apple got, Bill Gates would be living on the streets by now. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If I decided I wanted to buy a Merc, I wouldn't then go and foulmouth everyone who decided they wanted to drive a Ford or BMW. Get a life. As for Apple's "censorship", those of us with a memory more than a goldfish remember the hoops they had to jump through with iTunes DRM and the Performing Rights clowns which made them put in playback limitations that they didn't force on MS. Our nice people in MS, however, shafted all their lemmings with the PlayForSure and otherstuff. This current softporn "censorship" by Apple is due pressure from the PC nambies who ignore the constant stream of hardporn permitted by MS machinery.If you want to have a more informed/balanced view, read www.roughlydrafted.com. in my 39 years i have never owned a apple product. i purchased a 32 gig ipod touch 2 weeks ago from costco. it is GOING BACK. not impressed. apple is one crap company. zune hd is so much nicer, sure wish it had the apss.....!

this is why apple isnt in the gaming market their games would suck and it should be up to the indiviual to decide on what is approprite to download. Just make the app developers put a rating by the side of their app like E - M dur. I feel sorry for apple becaues i bet alot of developers that sell sex appeal wouldn't have to think twice now to switch to the google OS.

First it was flash and then it was the approval process and the nebulous criteria. Now we have basic utter draconian/cronyism that is a hallmark of the apple franchise world with regard to market forces. I mean these apps aren't necessarily porn but just some a "little" sexy whoopdee freakin dooo (Jobs can you be anymore uptight lol). This is another bad press moment for everyone except the mac cultists (ie koolaid drinkers). Contract is up on iphone in november this year and then i'm free. Sooo long apple!!!

It's a funny issue because people who defend it are assumed to be perverts. Although I hate Apple products and everything that has to do with them, this clearly isn't about censorship or freedom of expression. Anywho, Jobs needs to build himself a time machine and go back to the 50s, he would have had a very non sexual, very bland, and black and white (?) lifestyle. Sexuality is a big seller, and if Apple dosen't want to jump on that money train then I can take my buissness (if ya know what I mean ;) someplace else.

How do you buy a product from a manufacturer that is going to treat you like a child. If I want to look at adult content and I am over 21 years old that is my business. This is how you take care of this problem. Do not buy anything made by Mac. If you have one, well, no porn for you sorry!! I will keep my windows and linux based devices and look at all the porn I want.

here is a few new rules apple might consider on
1. all Anti-Apple web page, text message, app, audio file is banned.
2. no advocating PC is allowed.
3. all text message will be recived by apple, then reviewed and approved before send to reciever.
4. any webpage that does not explicitly state steve job is your god may not be visted.

This attitude goes through their full organization. I went into an Apple store for an iPOD cable and while there I asked why iTunes keeps trying to add Bonjour service to P.C.'s. The answer I gor was basically "You should be using a MAC" So what I am going to do is buy a Zune.

Maybe, but don't forget that there are those people who will buy Apple products no matter what.
Apple places uninturruptable and unskippable ads in your OS or mobile? Meh who cares! It's Apple, it's the bee's knees!
Apple shoots developers in the knees and forces them to produce apps which MUST follow a very strict set of rules. Should the app deviate from any of those rules, the app is pulled and the developer banned. But who cares? It's apple! They're awesome!
Apple charges 10x for a devices, that can do 1/16th of the stuff that a cheaper device can do. Who cares! It's Apple! They're t3h s3x!
I don't think that there's really anything that Apple can do that would prevent their loyal followers to stray. There are some people that are so brainwashed that they don't see reality.
