AOL Battens Down Hatches in Preperation for Huge Layoffs
Things aren’t looking great for AOL as it is in the process of shaking Time Warner loose. The once dominant internet company has announced that 100 layoffs will be happening soon. After that AOL plans to ask for voluntary departures, possibly with some sort of buyout system. If that doesn’t produce the desired results, employees can expect heads to roll.
In an earnings call last week, Time Warner reported that AOL revenues were down 23 percent from last year. Sources say that those figures mean AOL will need to cut about 1000 jobs through various means. The larger layoffs could coincide with AOL’s departure from Time Warner. It will be a rough holiday season for some AOL employees. It almost makes you miss the golden age of the free AOL disk.

Laid off AOL employees can always go in the recycling business and make money salvaging AOL cds that they flooded the market with! (or even better, they can use some of the money they fradulently ripped off unsuspecting AOL victims when they refused to cancel their accounts upon request) to hold out.

I grew up tortured by AOL's limits, and was denied access to Seattle U's website once because it had not been approved by the parental controls - when I was 17. Having all websites flagged besides those once tested and approved, there were a ton of perfectly PC sites I couldn't look at.
Thus, I never was able to seak hier educasion and therefore hav bad grammar and pour spelin sckils n stuff. F U AOL. When they finally go down I might have to change my boxers...

Back in the day, when it was still a little expensive for me to get 3 1/2" floppies, I used to format over the AOL discs that would come on the magazines. Cheaper that way.
I still have a ton of these in a container with some ancient backup files (I even have AOL ver. 2.5 for DOS). But seriously, even though I loathe AOL (except for the free discs), I really hate to see layoffs, especially at this time of year, happen to anyone.

What is with the spam as of late? Can there be some community features, like on youtube, to mark spam?
You can have your recession. I'm not participating.

Nahh, then there's a chance of abusing it and marking a comment spam just because you don't like it.
Pointing it out is much more efficient I think.

For some reason my parents still use AOL 9.1 as their main web browser I tried to get them to switch but they just won't.

I don't want to spark a political debate hear, but my homepage is set to AOL.com, because my wife likes the news and other stuff. If you actually read the articles and reporting there it is very liberal and I think that has hurt them very badly.
