Antec Announces CP-850 Power Supply, New Form Factor

Today Antec announced a brand spankin’ new PSU that will feature a new form factor designed specifically for their cases.
The new power supply, the CP-850, will swap over from the standard PS/2 form factor, the current standard for power supplies, in order to improve airflow, allow for better component selection and even operate quieter (or so Antec claims).
It’ll be available for $149.95 through major retailers (online and in store), and will come with a 5-year warranty

I'm happy to see manufacturers taking the chances to move the PC form factor foreward. I like the way HP built out their Blackbird and Firebird, and I'm waiting to see how Antec levereges the PSU to change their cases for the better. Its time they change the form factor because now HDDs and SSDs take up less room and integrating sound and decent video on the MoBo means smaller cases.
So what ever happened to the Voodoo Omen and its monolithic case?

Hooray for proprietary components!
I hope you all can sense my sarcasm. As an owner of a Dell XPS 400, I've seen my share of upgrades blocked by my form factor. Who knew BTX would never take off??

Yes I've seen this new PSU and let me tell you that it is shaped like a 16" in diameter Star of David. I hear they have a Christian Crusifix shaped PSU on the way as well.
Not really it just sounds funny.

When it comes to hardware, proprietary designs tend to fail.
It seems that everything has to be backwards compatible in order to keep afloat.
I do, however, applaud the move. If everything has to be backwards compatible, we'll never move forward.

Just looks like a boxier power supply, not as thin.
