Anonymous Dev Team Brings LimeWire Back to Life
Things weren't looking so well for LimeWire, the peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing service the RIAA managed to shut down via a court order last month. But according to TorrentFreak.com, a secret development team has gone and brought LimeWire back from the dead, while adding a few changes in the process.
"On October 26 the remaining LimeWire developers were forced to shut down the company's servers and modify remote settings in the file sharing client to try to harm the Gnutella network. There were then laid off," a source told TorrentFreak.
"Shortly after, a horde of piratical monkeys climbed aboard the abandoned ship, mended its sails, polished its cannons, and released it free to the community."
The latest version, blatantly known as LimeWire Pirate Edition, is making the rounds via BitTorrent. TorrentFreak's name-less source says the new version differs from the original in that all dependencies on LimeWire LLC's servers have been removed, remote settings have been disabled, the Ask toolbar unbundled, and all features of LimeWire Pro have been activated for free. There's also no adware or spyware, basically leaving the core app without all the cruft, or so the source says. It also underscores the never ending battle between the MPAA/RIAA and file sharing community.
While this new version wastes no time beating around the bush, the real LimeWire founder (Mark Gorton) has been trying to reach a settlement agreement with the RIAA and music labels to turn LimeWire into a legit music distribution service, laying off 30 percent of its workforce in the process.

I must say I had not predicted that would happen, but it's hilarious that it has.

You know most people insisted LimeWire gave out viruses. In the time I used it I never obtained a single one. 250 songs later and LimeWires 'new-look' I switched over to FrostWire. No problems there either.
These days however it's easier to just use utorrent or better yet, ListenToYouTube if it's only one song and not a whole album you're looking for.

Obviously you don't spend a great amount of time on a certain website on the internet. Typing in Captchas, which can be unreadable, on an imageboard that moves at an extremely fast pace is BS. It was supposed to be temporary too.

Hmm indeed. In fact it happens to be the topic of one of Max PC's articles today. 4chan became WAY too public. I've been on for a good two years, the users keep getting younger and more immature. I personally thing you should be at least 15, some have admitted to being 13 or younger. How the hell do they find the site? News stories!
Admittedly the media attention from the Scientology raid was needed and welcomed..

Seriously?
That was... a while ago now. Anon got media attention, usual BS about them being terrorists or something. Huge influx of new members though.

Frostwire already has all that, but I guess noobs need it to say limewire on the logo to use it.
Considering all the junk and fake files on the gnutella network, this form of technological darwinism is for the greater good. Maybe now we can shuffle everyone over to torrents

Still will not touch or use it, majority of PC's that I've had the pleasure of ridding trojans and viruses, I ask what are you using to download and most of them are using Limewire. Am I the only one who's never used it?

Always had the same issues as you. I've never once used Limewire, and I never shall. Give me my uTorrent, 'tis all I'll ever need.
