VIA Announces Motherboard for Digital Media Apps
VIA has announced a new motherboard based on its Trinity platform, which combines a VIA processor, VIA media system processor, and onboard discrete graphics. The all new VIA VB8003 mini-ITX motherboard features the triad of a 1.6GHz VIA Nano processor, VIA VX800 MSP and DX10.1 S3 Graphics 435 ULP onboard discrete graphics processor.
The motherboard’s onboard discrete graphics processor and the VIA MSP’s integrated graphics IGP work in concert, making it an ideal fit for a wide array of digital media applications. According to VIA, the motherboard supports “up to four, individually configurable displays at resolutions up to and beyond 1080p.”
The VB8003 features two HDMI ports, a DVI port, dual Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports, 4 USB 2.0 ports, serial and PS2 ports. According to Slashgear, the VB8003 will cost $340 in the US. However, there is no word on when it might hit American shores.

Nvidia really needs to scoop up VIA so that they can be a legitimate competitive force with intel in the netbook arena. I could also see the two making some fine htpcs if they got together.

The goal these days is to have Dolby 5.1 audio via the HDMI to be in the running. Having audio seperate from the video just plain sucks when my amp can decode the HDMI audio and pass the video along to the TV. Must have these days for a good HTPC.
