Android Market Blocked by China's Great Firewall
As if relations between China and Google weren't already tense, it's being reported that the Chinese government has gone and blocked the Android Market in the mainland. There's no love lost between these two giant entities, though why exactly China has chosen to erect a firewall in five major provinces to block users from downloading Android apps is not yet known.
The Next Web first reported the blockage, which is verified by heading over to Blocked in China, a website that checks the accessibility of URLs from Beijin, Shenzen, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang Province, and Yunnan Province. As of this writing, all five are registering market.android.com as "Blocked."
According to The Register, this all started over the weekend, right after Google announced plans to help the Dalai Lama to virtually visit South Africa. Whether or not this is the reason why China is blocking the Android Market is anyone's guess at this point.
Google.com and Gmail.com remain blocked as well.

I doubt any of the Chinese users can afford to buy anything from the Android marketplace anyway. This move is less censorship and more protectionism. They want to protect their own Internet companies. Every country has the right to do that.

That's right! Proud to be in the U.S.A. and drive cars that burn un-godly amounts of gas, brings pleasure to my soul.
Holly, you have proven over and over again how you love being a liberal, and embrace communism, however, here in the U.S.A. we are capitalists, and up until the liberal left and all their communist friends started screwing stuff up, things were going quite well........
While I agree with you that no man is perfect, including the recent presidents you listed, might I point you to the original founding fathers, and the constitution they wrote? If we had stayed in line with that, maybe, just maybe you would be slightly more intelligent about the subject.
BTW, my company car is a 5.4L V12 BMW 750iL. On the weekends I drive my 4.5L V8 Infiniti Q45. My wife driver her Mustang, and in the winter we drive a 4X4 Ford Pickup truck. Yeah, I love being American, and love burning gasoline. This darn earth is too cold anyway, lets warm the place up. Even though global warming is proven to be a complete and total myth, several times a long time ago.

That fuel you burn... Is from an enemy nation. So yes, be proud, and be hypocritical. Hey, I have no problems with Iran and Afganistan. Quite frankly. No conservative seems to understand why they are in war in the first place. Hey, if you like seeing your own country go poor, while Dubai is getting rich... That is on you. Capitalism was great back in the 1950s, factor workers can buy an entire house, but not anymore. Heck, office workers have a hard time keeping up with rent. At some point... Capitalism destroys itself. And your ideas on global warming is perfect enough proof that capitalism is self-destructive.

Nothing like a non-educated idiot embarrassing herself on the internet.
#1. Of the oil that we don't tap and use ourselves, *MOST OF IT* comes from friendly nations.
I am really bummed about giving Canada all that money.
#2. The US itself, produces more oil than Canada and Mexico put together. (In case you forgot the first point, Canada is our #1 supplier with Mexico at #3.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_energy_consumption#Oil_2
#3. Over all, the US is a very efficient nation for how developed our nation is, and the amount of economic output.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Energy_Intensity.png
So yes, I feel quite good about all the gas I burn, and the size of house I live in, and all the cars I own.
Again, the entire global warming thing is false, and even if it was true, then lets warm this place up!

Did you just read what you post? "Global warming is cool, lets warm this play up!" If this place gets any hotter, the polar ice caps will melt. That means that the water level will rise, sinking places like Miami and New York City. Remember, most big cities are at ocean level. If global warming is not stopped, the permafrost in Siberia would melt releasing methane gas onto our ozone, making our planet uninhabitable to any living being. Gosh, you must think the world is flat, and the sun goes around the Earth. Even the Catholic church is up to date... Why aren't you? Hey, you like seeing Dubai grow, that is on you. I do not need Wikipedia to back up my case. This should be common sense already. Gosh, aren't you at least a little embarrassed of your ignorance? The world is laughing at your stupidity. Although the whole world think America is that way naturally.

#1. The earth has been changing temperature since it was created thousands of years ago.
http://www.longrangeweather.com/global_temperatures.htm
#2. While we can all agree the temperature is changing (not warming only, *CHANGING*) there is no (that means ZERO) evidence it has to do with mankind, or that we can stop/do anything about this false "global warming" idea.
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/cow-emissions-more-damaging-to-planet-than-cosub2sub-from-cars-427843.html
#3. Your extreme lack of debating is so laughable; I don't know how much more I can take. You have yet to offer up one bit of evidence (ya know, stuff you use to back up your statements), and instead continually insult the greatest nation on the face of the earth, for living like a modern society.#4. If you really hate the US so much, go somewhere else, and stop complaining. I know you have freedom of speech, but don't you even find that funny? In the US your free to bash this great nation that allows to you speak freely? Half of the other countries in the world, you’re not allowed to?
I don't know your back ground, where you live now, where you came from, but if you ever get the privilege of going to the US, I hope you come with an open mind, and take it all in. This is the most free (other than may the Swiss) place in the world. We need to protect it again you, and your liberal communist friends that are trying to turn this place into a trash heap.

TOR anyone?
Really, the Chinese government is being a dick - AGAIN! Can't we just add them to the hosts file with a redirect to 127.0.0.1?

China probably does not like the voting system for the apps by users. A bit too democratic for the party to bear.

I was in China last month and had no problem accessing the Android Market. Damn it, Google - You're a tech company, stay away from politics.

I've said it before, and I'll say it agian: You can't censor the web, it's impossible. While it's horrific that governments would try to do such a thing, we have technologies that help circumvent censors and filters.
It will take a little bit of work, but the people in China will still be able to get into the Android Market.

Why don't you build a great wall around your country and block out the entire planet? We'll see how that works out for you. Most of your companies make the majority of their revenue overseas so I wonder how that will affect your wretched economy.

I would love to look into the minds of governments and agencies and businesses to see why exactly they make the dumb descisions they do at times.
