AMD still lives on 5+billion is nothing to sneeze about .I would like to see AMD take advantage of its APU s and use them in tablets etc .
it obvious smart phone & tablets are taking the market away from PC sales ,too bad as good as they are ,they cant compete with well built PC .Call me old fashioned but like key boards I can feel when I type .AND YES I AM AN AMD FAN BOY but what ever your poison true tech geeks will have on of each :) so I will keep using my desk top for as long as I can thx so should you ! BTW w/o AMD there ld be no competition what so ever and INTEL would rape us all for CPU s ,not like they don't now,LOL but hey can't we all just get along???

AMD still provides great hardware at excellent prices. I just picked up one of their new 6-core chips and an Asus motherboard and I love it.

However, I was ready to buy a Windows 8 x86 tablet, but there were no AMD-based tablets to be found so I went with an Intel setup. I love the tablet, but I would have liked to get one with AMD hardware. Sadly AMD was not able to get their new mobile APUs to the market fast enough.

I did my part in the 4th quarter and am more than happy with the performance I got for the price.

Its amazing how so many people legitimized that troll by acknowledging his existence, do you guys realize that wintel made his account just before his post? He is obviously trying to rise emotions out of people and it really seemed to work. He has more replies than I ever had for a single post and he really didn't say much. I realize that I'm being hypocritical my self as we speak but there was an elephant in the room and someone had to say it.

Arse_assin

lmao you said it bro that guy is a tool but i agree with everyhting he says about amd you guys need to lighten up

avatar

LOL. I think someone pointed out that it appears to be the same person. Wintel and the other account. Wintel says something absurd which is quickly backed up by the account. To agree with what he says, you'd have to be the same person. lol

avatar

MaximumMike

Not only that but both accounts were created at virtually the same time and they both have the same bad grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. If they're not the same person, they know each other at the least.

My last six gaming PC builds have been AMD / Radeon. I build about every three years plus make PCs for friends. We’ve all been playing games, ultra settings, happily and enjoying solid frame rates.

I remember the days Intel used to price gouge and rest on their laurels and do not plan on supporting them again. I hope, for the market's sake, AMD sticks around. Their products have such a great price/performance ratio, it'd be sad to see them go.

It can be argued very successfully that Intel wouldn’t be the company it is today without AMD pushing them.

Wintel... take your meds, dork.

I've noticed there is a lot of angst from people that post on here. If one guy makes a typo and says something like "3.6ghx proc", someone will respond with a comment like "Hey, idiot - it's 3.6ghz get out of your moms basement."

Why all the anger?

Don't forget the spam.

On a completely unrelated note, omggggg lyk u can buy shoes and such from my website k!

But I still love you even with your spam filter failures, MaxPC.

Lastly, my current 2 year old computer is using a 1090T. Older, but easy to overclock and gets the job done. On a budget. No AMD hate coming from me.

I think amd should just start patent trolling apple.

It would be funny to see the two market share minorities duke it out.

"Two men enter, One man leaves!"

I'm an Intel fan, but I constantly use AMD chips on my builds for my customers that don't need an expensive rig.

I hope AMD gets itself out of this hole, as I like the idea of always having another desktop processor manufacturer to give a little competition to Intel.

Take the same data and completely twist it around and you have a very positive look at AMD numbers:

I know I've posted on this article quite a bit, so I'll make this my last post, but I just realized who this "Wintel" tool is. He posts on extremetech and toms hardware all the time going by the aliases jml and jimmy something. I recognize his style of writing and AMD flaming. Guy has some serious issues.

It really comes down to how AMD is running their business and how customers perceive the products and support. It really does not matter if AMD makes decent components if customers feel they have a better choice. The old saying "you can never go very wrong choosing IBM" can be said for Intel.

Where AMD is really starting to show its failings is in the support side. There is enough talk about poor driver support to influence both business and personal customers away from the platform. That can hurt business more than just competition in the products.

AMD will need to break up into smaller, more agile companies so the real dead wood can peacefully die or get sold off while the good products can start to compete again. It also needs to get out from under the middle eastern and venture capitalists owners and get back into tech savvy owners.

From an ex AMD employee perspective, I believe no wonder that is happening to the world second largest chip maker. Simply because it is not enough to concentrate ALL efforts on attempting to produce great products. AMD has never took an adequate initiative to grow their business and all AMDers rely on the huge amount of favoritism in the upper management.

i hope both next gen consoles truly run amd fx cpus and gpus as per the current rumors. this would help amd get back some much needed revenue and keep intel competitive. i have had 2-3x more amd cpus than intel and it sucks that they are in this situation right now.

avatar

cmasupra

I agree. I am also hoping both of the next gen consoles have AMD CPUs and GPUs. I don't plan to buy either console, but it would be good for AMD, and thus good for the PC gamers because it gives Intel some competition.

avatar

AFDozerman

Intel loses 27 percent profit year over year, and the comments are "Wow, PC market sure is down." AMD loses 17 percent and it's "OMFG AMD SUCKS SO BAD!!! THEY NEED TO DIE DIE DIE!!! DIE EVIL WITCH, DIEEEEE!!! AMD IS THE WORST COMPANY IN THE WORLD!!!!" Predigest much? You know who you are...

avatar

kixofmyg0t

Even with your grammatical screw up, you hit the nail on the head.

MaximumPC is a place for Intel and "I hate consoles! We're the master race!" fan boys to circle jerk themselves into a frenzy.

avatar

Brdn666

To be fair, this is MaximumPc after all. Simply put, Intel has the highest performing chips right out. Don't get me wrong, I'll pretty much always buy AMD, mainly because I like supporting the smaller company and it's not like CPU matters all that much for gaming.

avatar

DR_JDUBZ

amd has the highest performance chips, pop in quad opteron 16 core cpus, intel doesnt even come close!!!

avatar

Andrew.Hodge

Intel has quad socket boards, too, and ten core monstrosities that fit in them. 40 threads per board with a higer per-core performance puts it just ahead of the quad socket opterons, but at about triple the price. It's all a moot point if no one can afford your product!

avatar

saffy

Pre-digest or prejudice?

avatar

AFDozerman

Hey, I spelled it right the first time, but opera flagged it and I just went with whatever came out. Should probably trust myself more often!
