Hilarity

When an i3 smashes up your top end and butchers your APU (not the GPU, but still the more important CPU side), its not a good sign. Not to mention the power consumption differences. I'll be surprised if AMD is still around this time next year.

Actually, the piledriver based apu are much faster than the i3 and of course their GPU are even much faster.

Maximum pc is unforgiving for typos lol, four different people mentioned it at complete separate times.

Could they be about to start using a cheaper fab partner on some of their lower end parts?

Renegotiate. Yeah, typos happen. Anyways, that's not the point. I just want a 2nd or 3rd party to survive in CPU manufacturing. We don't want a one horse race in this sector.

So they are going to spend only $115 million on wafers and then pay $320 million in penalties to get out of $500 million in contracted purchases. Wouldn't it have made more sense to just buy the wafers and actually have product to sell then waste $320 million and have nothing to show for it? Just sayin.

The story doesn't say but I think it's safe to assume that the decreased order covers more then just this quarter, and likely covers some, if not all, of 2013.

Look at it this way, if AMD only needs 1/3 of the wafers in the 4th quarter, what's the chance they need all of the the 1st quarter of next year?

Perhaps AMD does not have the money to pay the whole thing. They are paying the fine over a long period...

You misspelled his misspelling

Considering that Global Foundries' incompetence is said to have cost AMD a lucrative deal with Apple I think that Global Foundries should be paying AMD...

"Renogitated"

Big word is word.

Hehehe...

Hey Paul, your secondary title has a small spelling mistake. Speaking of which, what is up with the new sub-headers?
