AMD Rolls Out New A-Series APUs for Desktops and Notebooks
AMD didn't want to let the year slip by without making one final hardware announcement, and so the chip designer today announced the addition of new A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) based on Llano. There are more than a dozen new chips in all, split between the desktop and notebook, and all of them sporting mostly minor updates, but updates nonetheless.
Of particular interest is the introduction of K-series chips in the desktop line. These include the A8-3870K (3GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 400MHz GPU) and A6-3670K (2.7GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 320MHz GPU). Both of these are unlocked processors.
"The new AMD A-Series family of APUs improves the first generation of highly successful and revolutionary desktop and notebook processors, providing an outstanding experience for consumers seeking more responsive multitasking, long battery-life, vivid graphics, lifelike games, lag-free videos and the ultimate multimedia performance," AMD said in a statement.
AMD added eight new mobile A-Series APUs, including new MX variants with a slightly higher TDP (45W compared to 35W). The new chips will roll out over the next several weeks, AMD said.
