My first scratch build was in 1998 as well. It "rocked" an AMD K-6 300, 8GB HDD, a whopping 96MB of RAM and a 16MB Voodoo Banshee Video Card. All for the purpose of playing Half-Life. Ah,the memories...

You reek of awesome.

Oh man the Voodoo Banshee! I remember that! No longer did you have to have a add in 3D card! I had a Canopus Pure 3D around that time. That 6MB frame buffer made it the BIG DOG in those days.

You cant keep a good Athlon down. With a decade behind them and having already been going strong through multiple generations of cpu's, it should do just fine (as long as the retail price is reasonable.).

Piledriver architecture? How is that Athlon II? Plus, does that "quad core" mean two modules? If so it's not all that impressive. What WOULD be nice is if AMD stopped calling a module two cores. It's not.

Athlon II? Why not call it Athlon III or something? Anyway, let's hope they're priced well.

Why is the Athalon not put to rest yet?
